The youth in Qatar have shown exceptional familiarity with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) compared to their peers in the Middle East and globally, as highlighted in PwC’s Global Youth Outlook report. With a response rate of 98% when engaging with SDGs, Qatari youth attribute academia as the main driver for change, followed by government and non-government organizations. The integration of the SDGs in Qatar National Vision 2030 has resulted in high levels of awareness, participation, and national confidence among the youth.

The strategic development of the education sector is a key factor in the Human Development Pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030. The launch of Qatar’s 2024-2030 national education strategy aims to equip students with advanced skills to drive sustainable development and contribute to the realization of the Third National Development Strategy. Youth involvement in shaping sustainable development is essential, and policymakers, NGOs, businesses, and community initiatives play a crucial role in empowering them as stewards of the future world.

The SDG priorities for Qatari youth include access to Clean Water & Sanitation, Quality of Education, Good Health & Wellbeing, Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions, and No Poverty. These priorities present an opportunity to enhance youth involvement in relevant programs and policy making, particularly within Qatar. The involvement of youth in addressing global challenges is positively impacting their local communities and contributing to Qatar’s National Vision 2030 goals.

The Middle East region can lead the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by prioritizing and promoting youth involvement. The findings of PwC’s Global Youth Outlook underscore the significant role of Qatar’s youth in the country’s transformation. Qatar’s youth are not just future leaders but are also today’s change-makers, with a deep understanding of the SDGs and a readiness to address global challenges. Their contributions are crucial in building a better future for the people and planet.

The report captured the views, ambitions, and engagement of approximately 810 children and young adults aged 10 to 30 from eight countries in the Middle East. Their unique perspectives, challenges, and aspirations are vital in shaping policies and initiatives for sustainable development in the region. By highlighting the priorities and apprehensions of the youth, the report emphasizes the importance of engaging and empowering them to drive positive change and contribute to the realization of the SDGs.

In conclusion, the youth in Qatar have shown remarkable awareness and engagement with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, reflecting the country’s commitment to sustainable development and youth empowerment. With a focus on education, policy-making, and community initiatives, Qatar’s youth are actively contributing to the country’s National Vision 2030 goals and the global agenda for sustainable development. By recognizing the priorities and aspirations of the youth, Qatar and the Middle East region can foster a more sustainable future for generations to come.
