The lottery operator Emirates Draw has recently had its account withheld in the UAE in response to a legal demand, with the website inaccessible in the region. X typically complies with such requests in response to a court order or other legal requirements. Some accounts are withheld in response to valid requests from authorized entities, according to X.

This action comes shortly after authorities awarded an Abu Dhabi-based company, The Game LLC, the license to operate the UAE’s first authorized lottery operation. The company will operate under the banner of the ‘UAE Lottery’, with the specific games it will offer still undisclosed. The General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) has warned against participating in commercial gaming activities without a valid license, stating that it will result in legal action and penalties.

Raffle draw operators like Emirates Draw and Mahzooz had suspended their operations in the UAE from January 1, 2024, following directives from the GCGRA. Mahzooz had previously announced that there would be only one national lottery operator in the UAE. Ewings, the operator of Mahzooz, expressed disappointment at not receiving the license but stated that they are planning new ventures and look forward to sharing more details soon.

Established in September last year, the GCGRA is an independent regulatory entity within the UAE federal government that oversees and licenses all commercial gaming activities in the country. Headquartered in Abu Dhabi, the authority has a team of experts in various domains related to gaming regulation, law enforcement, and financial crime prevention. The authority is committed to establishing standards within the gaming industry and ensuring compliance with regulations.

It is important for individuals in the UAE to be aware of the legal implications of participating in gaming activities offered by unlicensed operators, whether online or at physical venues. Engaging in such activities may subject individuals to severe penalties, as outlined by the GCGRA. Only authorized operators, such as The Game LLC under the ‘UAE Lottery’ banner, are permitted to offer lottery games in the UAE, with strict regulations in place to ensure compliance with the law.

In conclusion, the recent developments regarding the withholding of accounts by X and the awarding of the license to The Game LLC highlight the importance of complying with regulations in the gaming industry in the UAE. It is crucial for operators and players to adhere to the guidelines set by the GCGRA to avoid legal repercussions. The establishment of the UAE’s first authorized lottery operation marks a significant milestone in the country’s gaming sector, with a focus on responsible gaming practices and regulatory oversight. Stay informed and updated on the latest news and developments in the gaming industry within the UAE to ensure compliance and legality in all gaming activities.
