The United Arab Emirates (UAE) kicked off their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a remarkable 3-1 comeback victory against Qatar. Despite being down 1-0 at halftime, the UAE managed to score three late goals in the second half to secure a surprising win against the two-time Asian champions. The team will now look to build on this triumph as they face Iran next, with Qatar aiming to bounce back in their upcoming match against DPR Korea. The top two teams in the group will secure direct berths for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while the third and fourth-placed teams will advance to a fourth round of Asian qualifiers. The UAE, who haven’t qualified for the World Cup since 1990, are determined to make a mark in this campaign.

The match started off in a scrappy manner, with both teams taking time to settle into the game at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium. Qatar made the first attacking moves, with Khalifa Al Hammadi making a crucial interception to deny Akram Afif a scoring opportunity. Despite the pressure, Qatar managed to take the lead in the 38th minute when Ibrahim Al Hassan scored a stunning goal past Yahia Nader. The UAE struggled to find their rhythm in the first half but came back stronger in the second half, with both teams evenly matched for the initial 15 minutes after the break.

As the game progressed, the UAE grew in confidence and managed to find the equalizer in the 68th minute through Harib Abdalla’s powerful shot. The turnaround was completed in the 80th minute when Khaled Aldhanhani intercepted a pass, made a brilliant run forward, and scored a goal that put UAE ahead. Qatar’s chance to salvage the game was denied in the closing minutes when a penalty decision was overturned after a VAR check. The UAE capitalized on this opportunity and sealed their victory with a third goal in stoppage time through Ali Saleh, who took advantage of a defensive error to score.

The UAE’s impressive performance against Qatar has set the tone for their World Cup qualifying campaign, with the team determined to secure a spot in the global showpiece event. The players showed resilience and determination in their comeback win, displaying their potential to compete against strong opponents in the group. The upcoming match against Iran will be a crucial test for the UAE, and they will be looking to maintain their winning momentum. With a solid team effort and tactical approach, the UAE has proven that they are a force to be reckoned with in the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The stunning victory against Qatar has not only boosted the UAE’s confidence but has also put them in a strong position in Group A of the qualifiers. The team’s ability to overcome a tough opponent like Qatar bodes well for their future matches and showcases their potential to go far in the competition. The UAE’s long-standing absence from the World Cup makes this campaign even more significant, and the players are eager to make a statement on the international stage. With the support of their fans and the determination to succeed, the UAE is on the right path towards qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
