For the second year in a row, Naufar Center and Msheireb Museums in Doha, Qatar are partnering to host an art exhibition titled “Do You See Me?” in honor of Global Recovery Month and World Mental Health Day. This collaboration aims to raise awareness about mental health, particularly substance use disorders, as part of their ongoing initiatives and partnerships. The exhibition is a result of a memorandum of understanding between the two organizations, focusing on providing comprehensive support for individuals affected by addiction and increasing community awareness about social issues in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

Abdullah Al Naama, the General Manager of Msheireb Museums, expressed his pleasure at hosting the exhibition for the second time, highlighting the institution’s role as a platform for community dialogue on contemporary issues. Through this collaboration with Naufar Center, they hope to change societal perceptions towards mental health and addiction, fostering a deeper understanding and compassion for these challenges. The “Do You See Me?” exhibition will take place at Company House in Msheireb Museums from September 19 to October 12, 2024, aiming to shed light on substance use disorders and provide interactive platforms for the public to engage in dialogue.

The exhibition serves as a platform for dialogue around addiction, using artistic expression to combat misconceptions and raise awareness about mental health in Qatari society. Featuring artworks created during “Expressive Art Therapy” sessions at Naufar Center, the exhibition aims to encourage constructive dialogue about mental health and addiction, addressing shared concerns with clarity and confidence. Assistant Director General at Naufar Center, Dr. Khalifa Al Kuwari, highlighted the role of Msheireb Museums in creating a supportive environment for those affected by addiction, emphasizing the importance of community support in creating positive change.

Dr. Al Kuwari emphasized the exhibition’s role in increasing awareness about substance use disorders and enhancing recovery opportunities for the community as a whole. The collaboration between Naufar Center and Msheireb Museums not only aims to educate the public about mental health issues but also provides a space for constructive dialogue and understanding. By engaging with the artworks and participating in discussions, attendees can gain a deeper insight into addiction and mental health, challenging misconceptions and promoting empathy and support for those affected by these challenges.

The “Do You See Me?” exhibition invites the community to explore substance use disorders through a human, cultural, and artistic lens, encouraging a more compassionate understanding of these issues. By providing a purposeful platform for dialogue, the exhibition seeks to promote positive change in society’s perception of addiction and mental health, fostering a more supportive and inclusive community. Through collaboration and dialogue, Naufar Center and Msheireb Museums aim to contribute to changing societal attitudes and behaviors towards mental health and addiction, paving the way for a healthier and more understanding society.
