The Board of Directors of the Oman Authority for Academic Accreditation and Educational Quality Assurance recently held its fourth meeting of 2024, chaired by Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. One of the key topics discussed during the meeting involved aligning the Programme Accreditation Guide with the Institutional Accreditation Guide. This project aims to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive approach to the accreditation process for educational programs and institutions in Oman.

In addition to discussing the alignment of accreditation guides, the Board also reviewed amendments to the School Performance Evaluation System. This system plays a crucial role in assessing the quality of education provided by schools in Oman. By making necessary updates and improvements to this evaluation process, the Authority aims to enhance the quality of education across the country. The meeting also focused on professional qualifications set in the National Qualifications Framework, aiming to ensure that educational qualifications align with international standards and meet the needs of the job market.

Furthermore, the Board of Directors explored the Authority’s proposal on external international quality assurance. This initiative seeks to incorporate external quality assurance mechanisms from reputable international organizations, ensuring that educational standards in Oman are on par with global benchmarks. By adopting best practices from around the world, the Authority aims to improve the overall quality of education and educational accreditation in the country.

The meeting of the Oman Authority for Academic Accreditation and Educational Quality Assurance reflects the commitment of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation to enhancing the quality of education in Oman. Through ongoing discussions and initiatives such as aligning accreditation guides, updating evaluation systems, and integrating international quality assurance mechanisms, the Authority is working towards ensuring that students in Oman receive a high-quality education that meets international standards. These efforts are essential for preparing students to succeed in an increasingly competitive global workforce.
