The 2024 Fintech Future Forum recently concluded at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre, marking its successful second year. With 1,700 attendees from around the world, the event provided fresh perspectives on fintech trends and facilitated networking opportunities among key business executives. Organized by the Economic Development Board (EDB) in partnership with Economist Impact, the forum delved into emerging technologies and their impact on the global financial landscape.

The forum opened with strategic insights from His Excellency Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy, highlighting the need for adaptation to new economic realities in the evolving fintech sector. A panel discussion followed, featuring industry leaders and experts discussing the fostering of tech talent amid global competition and constant change.

The Transformation Agenda series at the event brought together industry thought leaders from around the world to discuss fintech developments, including macroeconomic trends, open banking, and cryptocurrencies. Key participants included representatives from institutions such as Morgan Stanley Investment Management and Wells Fargo, showcasing Bahrain’s growing influence in the regional fintech landscape.

Several key partnerships and milestones were announced at the forum, including MoUs between crypto.com and Benefit, as well as SC Ventures and Bahrain Fintech Bay. The NBB revealed a partnership with ARP Digital to launch the first Bitcoin-linked investment fund in the GCC, further solidifying Bahrain’s position as a fintech leader. Bahrain Fintech Bay also unveiled its 2024 Bahrain Fintech Ecosystem Report during the event.

The discussions at the forum were guided by top moderators from The Economist, including Capital Markets Editor Joshua Roberts and Schumpeter Columnist Jean Piotrowski. Their expertise helped navigate the conversations on fintech developments and trends, providing valuable insights for attendees. Bahrain’s rise as a fintech hub has been fueled by its forward-thinking regulatory framework and skilled workforce, making it an attractive destination for global investors.

Overall, Bahrain’s success in fintech and emerging technologies has positioned the kingdom as a regional leader in fintech, open banking, cryptocurrencies, and artificial intelligence. By hosting events like the Fintech Future Forum, Bahrain continues to showcase its innovative approach to shaping the future of financial services in the region. With strategic partnerships and a conducive environment for fintech, Bahrain is on the path to further establishing itself as a prominent player in the global fintech landscape.
