The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) recently participated in the opening of the Anrod Jugnauth Hospital (Flacq Teaching Hospital) construction and equipment project in Mauritius. This project, with a capacity of 575 medical beds and covering a total area of approximately 95,000 square meters, aims to enhance the efficiency of the health system in Mauritius, provide the highest standards of healthcare and disease prevention, and train students from health colleges. The SFD contributed $50 million in soft development loans to support the financing of the hospital.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, along with representatives from the Saudi Fund for Development. The hospital is designed to enhance the services provided and develop capabilities at high-quality levels, facilitating access to treatment for beneficiaries. This project aligns with the Fund’s efforts to support the health sector, recognizing its critical role in the development and prosperity of future generations in developing countries. It strengthens the pillars of sustainable development across various scopes and forms in developing nations worldwide.

The Saudi Fund for Development has been supporting Mauritius since 1982, financing development projects and programs in various vital sectors. Over the years, the Fund has financed the implementation of seven projects and programs through soft development loans worth over $228 million. These projects have contributed to the enhancement of social and economic growth, knowledge and capacity building, and the provision of basic infrastructure services in Mauritius, demonstrating the Fund’s commitment to supporting the country’s development goals.

The Anrod Jugnauth Hospital is a significant addition to Mauritius’s healthcare infrastructure, as it will provide much-needed medical services to the local community. The hospital’s location in Flacq will ensure that residents in the area have access to high-quality healthcare facilities and services, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances to receive treatment. Additionally, the hospital’s training programs for students from health colleges will help to build a skilled workforce in the healthcare sector, further enhancing the quality of care available in Mauritius.

The Saudi Fund for Development’s support for the Anrod Jugnauth Hospital project highlights its commitment to improving healthcare access and delivery in developing countries. By providing funding for essential infrastructure projects like this hospital, the Fund is helping to strengthen the health systems in these countries, ultimately improving the well-being and quality of life for their citizens. The Fund’s focus on sustainable development and capacity building ensures that its investments have a lasting impact on the communities it serves, helping to drive progress and prosperity for future generations.

Overall, the Anrod Jugnauth Hospital project represents a key milestone in the ongoing partnership between the Saudi Fund for Development and Mauritius. By working together to finance and implement vital development projects, the Fund and the country are able to make significant strides towards achieving their shared goals of social and economic growth, knowledge and capacity building, and the provision of essential services. With the successful completion of the hospital project, both parties can continue to build on this foundation of cooperation and collaboration to further enhance the health and well-being of the people of Mauritius.
