With the latest data released by the United Nations Tourism Organization, Saudi Arabia has once again shown impressive growth in international tourism figures among the G20 countries. The Kingdom saw a 73 percent increase in the number of international tourists and a staggering 207 percent growth in international tourism revenues during the first seven months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2019. This significant growth further solidifies Saudi Arabia’s position as a leading global tourism destination.

During the mentioned period, Saudi Arabia welcomed around 17.5 million international tourists, showcasing a substantial increase in its global tourism appeal. In 2023, the Kingdom had 27.4 million visitors, marking a 56 percent growth in the number of international tourists compared to 2019. This growth placed Saudi Arabia at the top of the UN list for tourism growth among major tourist destinations in 2023. The travel item’s surplus also reached a historic SR48 billion in 2023, reflecting a 38 percent year-on-year increase.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF), in its 2024 Article IV Consultation report released in September, praised the unprecedented achievements of Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector as part of Saudi Vision 2030. The IMF specifically noted the sector’s role in diversifying the Kingdom’s economic base, particularly in the services sector where tourism has emerged as a key driver of growth. The tourism sector has excelled in visitor numbers, spending, job creation, and contribution to the GDP, highlighting its importance in the overall economic landscape.

The IMF’s recognition of Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector’s achievements and its contribution to the country’s economic diversification reinforces the Kingdom’s status as a premier global tourism destination. The continuous rise in tourist numbers reflects the confidence in Saudi Arabia’s diverse and appealing tourism offerings. This growth also signifies the successful implementation of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to transform the country into a diversified, dynamic, and sustainable economy. The tourism sector is playing a pivotal role in achieving these goals and driving growth across various aspects of the economy.

Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector has been instrumental in positioning the Kingdom as a top global tourism destination, attracting a growing number of international visitors through its diverse offerings. The remarkable growth in international tourism figures and revenues further underscores the country’s ability to appeal to a wide range of tourists and provide them with unique and memorable experiences. As the sector continues to expand and evolve, Saudi Arabia is set to solidify its position as a key player in the global tourism industry, contributing significantly to the country’s economic development and overall growth.

In conclusion, Saudi Arabia’s impressive growth in international tourism figures highlights the country’s increasing importance as a premier global tourism destination. The Kingdom’s achievements in attracting international tourists, generating revenues, and contributing to economic diversification through the tourism sector are commendable. With the successful implementation of Saudi Vision 2030 and the continued development of its tourism offerings, Saudi Arabia is well-positioned to further enhance its status on the global tourism stage and drive sustained growth and prosperity in the years to come.
