Salalah Free Zone is a hub for food projects, with 47 projects worth OMR775.6 million invested in the zone. These projects account for 16 percent of the total volume of investments in the zone. Among the most important food products produced in Salalah Free Zone are milk and dairy products, fisheries, canned tuna, mineral water, sweets, and fertilizers. These products not only contribute to Oman’s reputation as an exporter of high-quality foodstuff but also reflect the country’s commitment to supporting food security and boosting exports.

Dr. Saud Hamoud Al Habsi, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, recently visited Salalah Free Zone to assess the progress of the food and agricultural sector factories. During his visit, the minister emphasized the importance of achieving strategic objectives related to food security, agricultural and fisheries sector development, water resources management, and the increase in the added value of food products. The minister visited six main factories in the zone, including Philex Pharmaceutical Industries Factory, where he learned about innovations in food supplements and medicines.

The minister’s discussions with factory officials focused on ways to enhance food security by increasing efficiency to meet market demands in a sustainable manner. One proposal involved establishing a link among raw material units operating in the medical industries sector, such as the extraction of active ingredients from frankincense, algae, and seaweed. Salalah Free Zone supports investments by offering economic incentives like tax and customs exemptions, allowing 100% foreign ownership of production units, and waiving minimum capital requirements. These incentives aim to attract more investments in the food industry and strengthen the zone’s position as a key player in the sector.

By investing in the food industry, Salalah Free Zone is not only boosting Oman’s economy but also contributing to the country’s food security and export development. The zone’s focus on high-quality food products like milk, fisheries, canned tuna, mineral water, sweets, and fertilizers showcases Oman’s dedication to producing top-notch goods for both local consumption and international markets. Dr. Saud Hamoud Al Habsi’s visit to the zone highlights the government’s commitment to supporting the growth of the food and agricultural sectors and ensuring the sustainable management of water resources to enhance the overall food production process.

Through strategic investments and collaborations with key players in the food sector, Salalah Free Zone is well-positioned to expand its offerings and attract more investors to the region. With its focus on innovation, sustainability, and market demand, the zone is set to become a powerhouse for food production in Oman. The economic incentives provided by Salalah Free Zone further reinforce its appeal to investors, making it a preferred destination for those looking to establish or expand their presence in the food industry. As the zone continues to grow and evolve, it will play a crucial role in driving Oman’s economic development and ensuring the country’s food security for years to come.
