Qatar’s Ambassador: Amir’s Trip to Italy Expands Opportunities for Collaboration

The Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Italian Republic, H. E Khalid bin Youssef Al Sada, emphasized the importance of Amir H. H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s visit to Italy in strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across various fields. The visit signifies the strategic partnership between Qatar and Italy, especially in ensuring energy supplies to Europe, as Italy is the second-largest importer of Qatari gas in Europe. The focus will be on enhancing partnerships in the energy sector to foster continuous cooperation.

During the visit, economic cooperation, trade, investment, and cultural collaboration will be key topics of discussion. The two countries are expected to sign memoranda of understanding to enhance partnership in these areas. Qatar believes that economic cooperation with Italy will experience substantial growth in the future, given the strong economic ties between the two countries. The bilateral trade exchange reached QR20bn in 2023, indicating the potential for further expansion of trade relations.

Qatar and Italy have historical trade relations with significant opportunities for joint investments. Italy was Qatar’s 7th trading partner in 2023, and the Qatar Investment Authority has invested QR10bn in various sectors in Italy. Moreover, there are 77 passenger flights and 35 cargo flights weekly between the two countries, showcasing the strong connectivity between them. The Ambassador highlighted plans to promote Qatar’s investments in key sectors in Italy like industry, tourism, and hospitality, recognizing Italy as an attractive investment destination with vast opportunities.

In terms of sustainability and renewable energy initiatives, Qatar can play a crucial role through its investments and expertise in renewable and sustainable energy. The Ambassador emphasized Qatar’s interest in enhancing the partnership with Italy in this field to achieve common goals. Discussions on cooperation opportunities in sustainability and renewable energy can pave the way for joint initiatives to address environmental challenges. By leveraging its resources and experience, Qatar aims to contribute significantly to sustainable development in collaboration with Italy.

Additionally, diplomatic and security initiatives will be on the agenda to bolster military cooperation between Qatar and Italy amidst regional security challenges. The two sides are expected to explore new avenues for cooperation in this context, exemplifying their commitment to enhancing security and defense ties. By discussing new diplomatic and security initiatives, Qatar and Italy can further strengthen their relationship and address common security concerns effectively.

In conclusion, the visit of Amir H. H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Italy marks a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between Qatar and Italy.
