The Ministry of Municipality in Qatar recently organized a workshop in collaboration with Korean entities such as KOTRA and the Hyundai Research Institute, focusing on smart farming techniques. Masoud Jarallah Al Marri, Director of the Food Security Department, highlighted the country’s commitment to food security and increasing local production of agricultural products to achieve self-sufficiency levels, particularly for perishable vegetables. Qatar is implementing modern technology, such as high-tech greenhouses, to overcome challenges like water scarcity and harsh climatic conditions. The workshop aimed to address these challenges through a joint project with the Korean government to analyze the impact of climate change on food production in Qatar and propose sustainable solutions.

Al Marri emphasized the importance of leveraging the expertise and technologies available in South Korea through knowledge exchange initiatives. The collaboration involves the Hyundai Research Institute and PlanTFarm working on data collection and assessment of agricultural technologies in both countries. The project seeks to provide technological solutions and policy recommendations to enhance food production in Qatar, as well as strengthen economic cooperation between the two nations. These initiatives are crucial for ensuring food security in Qatar and addressing the challenges posed by climate change and limited natural resources.

The workshop discussed the final report of the joint Qatar and Korea knowledge exchange on smart farming, highlighting the current situation in Qatar and drawing on best practices and advanced technologies from South Korea. The report also proposed policies and measures to enhance the resilience of food production systems in Qatar. These recommendations are essential for improving agricultural productivity and sustainability in the face of environmental challenges and resource constraints. The collaboration between Qatar and Korea underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing food security issues and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Through the workshop, Qatar is seeking to learn from the experiences of South Korea in implementing smart farming techniques and advanced technologies. The exchange of knowledge and expertise between the two countries is a valuable opportunity to enhance food security and agricultural productivity in Qatar. By leveraging innovations in agriculture and sustainable practices, Qatar can strengthen its self-sufficiency in food production and reduce its reliance on imports. The collaboration with Korea reflects Qatar’s commitment to achieving food security and developing a resilient agricultural sector capable of overcoming environmental challenges.

The joint project between Qatar and Korea is a significant step towards enhancing food security and sustainability in Qatar. By harnessing the knowledge and technologies available in South Korea, Qatar can improve its agricultural practices and overcome challenges related to climate change and water scarcity. The project’s focus on protected agriculture and advanced technologies demonstrates a proactive approach to addressing food security issues and increasing local production. Through collaboration with international partners, Qatar can strengthen its resilience in food production and achieve sustainable agricultural development.

In conclusion, the workshop between Qatar and Korea on smart farming has laid the groundwork for future collaboration and knowledge exchange in the agricultural sector. The initiatives undertaken by both countries underscore the importance of international cooperation in addressing food security challenges and promoting sustainable agriculture. By learning from each other’s experiences and implementing innovative solutions, Qatar and Korea can enhance food production systems and ensure a secure food supply for their populations. This collaborative effort is essential for building resilience in the face of environmental uncertainties and achieving long-term food security goals.
