Qatar joins the General Assembly of the International Electrotechnical Organization

The State of Qatar actively participated in the annual meetings of the International Electrotechnical Organization (IEC) in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Qatari delegation, led by Chairman of the Qatar General Organization for Standardization and Metrology H E Eng. Mohammed bin Sauod Mohammed Al Musallam, engaged in dialogue sessions, workshops, and formal gatherings among the IEC’s governance entities. The event, titled “Towards a Fully Electric and Connected Society,” focused on advancing a digital society that relies on sustainable electricity. Discussions highlighted the global access to renewable, sustainable, and affordable energy and how technologies like artificial intelligence can help decarbonize energy infrastructures efficiently.

The 88th IEC General Assembly session marked the conclusion of the meetings, where delegates reviewed ongoing IEC activities and discussed future strategies. Objectives of the sessions included supporting the IEC’s strategic plan, integrating artificial intelligence into international standards development, and enhancing conformity assessment practices. Commitment to circular economy standards and promoting a shift towards clean energy were key themes discussed during the assembly. The agenda also featured the appointment of a new Committee Chairman for 2026-2028, approval of new Board members and specialized councils, and endorsement of advisory committee appointments. Delegates also approved financial statements for the previous year and discussed the upcoming year’s budget.

The IEC meeting in Edinburgh aimed to address the challenges and opportunities of building a digital society relying entirely on sustainable electricity. With discussions focusing on leveraging renewable energy sources and technologies like artificial intelligence, delegates emphasized the importance of decarbonizing energy infrastructures efficiently. The event highlighted the role of global access to renewable, sustainable, and affordable energy in advancing a fully electric and connected society, with a focus on promoting clean energy and circular economy standards.

The Qatari delegation, led by Chairman of the Qatar General Organization for Standardization and Metrology H E Eng.
