The State of Qatar is actively participating in the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan. The delegation is headed by the Minister of Environment and Climate Change HE Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie. The conference, which will last until November 22, will focus on key issues such as climate finance, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, climate justice, public-private sector cooperation, and the transition to renewable energy.

During the opening session of the World Leaders Climate Action Summit, attended by world leaders, heads of government, ministers, UN officials, and representatives from civil society organizations, HE Minister Al Subaie participated in discussions on global climate action. HE Minister Al Subaie also held meetings with officials from the Islamic Republic of Iran and Japan on the sidelines of the conference.

COP29 will also address green transportation technologies, biodiversity protection, and the reports and reviews from the previous COP28 summit. This conference serves as a vital platform for global progress in combating climate change and developing new policies to accelerate climate action worldwide.

The State of Qatar has a strong focus on climate change, demonstrated through its commitment to international agreements like the Paris Agreement. Qatar National Vision 2030 aims to address climate change through diversifying the national economy, enhancing capacity building, and sustainable use of natural resources in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The state has implemented national policies like the National Climate Change and Environment Strategy, the National Climate Action Plan 2030, and the Third National Development Strategy to combat and adapt to climate change.

Qatar’s commitment to combating climate change is further reflected in its active participation in COP29, where discussions on climate finance, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, and public-private sector cooperation are key topics. The state’s efforts to address climate change are aligned with its vision for sustainable development and a greener future.

As a key player in global climate action, Qatar is working towards achieving its national climate goals while contributing to international efforts to combat climate change. The participation of HE Minister Al Subaie in COP29 highlights Qatar’s dedication to addressing climate challenges and pursuing sustainable development for a more environmentally-friendly future.
