Qatar Airways Group has recently acquired a 25% stake in Airlink, a prominent independent regional carrier in Southern Africa. This move is part of Qatar Airways’ commitment to expanding its operations across the African continent. Airlink operates flights to over 45 destinations in 15 African countries, making it a valuable partner for Qatar Airways. The collaboration will strengthen the code-sharing agreement between the two airlines and support Qatar Airways’ growth strategy in Africa.

The investment in Airlink is a strategic decision that will solidify Qatar Airways’ position as a key player in Africa’s aviation market. By partnering with Airlink, Qatar Airways can enhance its connectivity in the region and contribute to the continent’s economic development. Qatar Airways Group CEO, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, emphasized the importance of Africa to the airline’s future business plans. He highlighted Airlink’s resilience, financial stability, and strong governance as key reasons for the investment.

Airlink’s CEO, Rodger Foster, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership with Qatar Airways. He sees this collaboration as a vote of confidence in Airlink’s operations and the markets it serves. The investment from Qatar Airways will support Airlink’s growth ambitions by providing scale efficiencies, increasing capacity, and expanding marketing reach. This strategic partnership will also benefit Airlink’s existing airline alliances, further strengthening its position in the region.

One of the key aspects of the partnership between Qatar Airways and Airlink is the alignment of their loyalty programs. Qatar Airways Privilege Club and Airlink Skybucks will work together to provide enhanced benefits to their customers. Qatar Airways currently serves 29 destinations in Africa, and the airline has seen significant growth in the market. New destinations have been added to the Qatar Airways network in Africa since December 2020, reflecting the airline’s commitment to expanding its presence in the region.

Overall, the partnership between Qatar Airways and Airlink is a significant development in the African aviation industry. By combining their resources and expertise, the two airlines can strengthen their market positions and provide enhanced services to customers. The investment from Qatar Airways will support Airlink’s growth ambitions and help unlock new opportunities in the African market. This collaboration is a testament to the potential of Africa’s aviation sector and the opportunities for growth and development in the region.
