The latest parliamentary session in Manama marked a departure from the norm as the Council of Representatives did not live stream the session on its YouTube platform for the first time in years. Instead, a recorded video of the session was later posted on the Council’s channel. The session was productive, with the Council discussing messages received from the government regarding 30 proposals. A brief exchange occurred at the beginning of the session between Council Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam and newly elected member Abdul Wahid Qarata, who was denied the opportunity to deliver an unlisted speech.

In a show of appreciation for the media, MP Dr. Ali Al Nuaimi acknowledged the presence of journalists at the session, stating that the media sector and the press deserve recognition and support in all circumstances. The session was also attended by various government officials, including HE Ghanim bin Fadhl Al Buainain, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, and Dr. Mariam Adhbi Al Jalahma, CEO of Government Hospitals. However, the selection of members for the five parliamentary committees did not take place during this session.

Despite the lack of live streaming, the parliamentary session was still an important event, with discussions on numerous government proposals. The presence of representatives from various government departments and officials added to the significance of the session. The denial of Qarata’s request to deliver an unlisted speech was a notable moment, showing the adherence to parliamentary traditions and procedures.

It is essential to acknowledge the media’s role in covering such parliamentary sessions, as highlighted by MP Dr. Ali Al Nuaimi during the meeting. The media plays a crucial role in keeping the public informed about the proceedings and decisions made by the Council of Representatives. The commitment to supporting the media sector and press in all circumstances reflects the importance placed on transparency and accountability in government activities.

The presence of high-ranking government officials at the parliamentary session demonstrates the significance of the discussions and decisions made by the Council. The attendance of HE Ghanim bin Fadhl Al Buainain and Dr. Mariam Adhbi Al Jalahma, among others, underscores the importance of collaboration between the legislative and executive branches of government. Despite the absence of live streaming, the session was still a vital forum for addressing key government proposals and issues.

In conclusion, the recent parliamentary session in Manama was a significant event, with discussions on government proposals and the presence of various government officials. While there was a departure from the usual live streaming of the session, the recorded video later posted on the Council’s channel allowed for public access to the proceedings. The acknowledgment of the media’s role and commitment to supporting press freedom and transparency in government activities were important aspects of the session. The absence of the selection of committee members during the session indicates that there are still important issues to be addressed in future sessions.
