King Abdulaziz University, through its Faculty of Maritime Studies, has opened admission to female students for the first time in maritime specializations. This move aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 to empower Saudi women in new professions and expand studies and research opportunities in this field. By establishing an agency for female student affairs at the faculty, the university aims to contribute to the growth and development of the maritime transport industry and logistics services in Saudi Arabia. Dr. Faisal Al-Dhaibani, dean of the faculty, emphasizes the importance of investing in the capabilities of Saudi women in the maritime transport sector to achieve sustainability and increase overall efficiency.

The strategy of the Faculty of Maritime Studies focuses on providing globally recognized education and training in surveying and maritime transport to qualify Saudi human resources and boost the national economy. As part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, efforts are being made to enhance women’s representation in various sectors, including maritime transport. This recognition of the importance of women’s participation in the maritime industry aims to address the workforce gap and align with global trends. Dr. Maha Hegazy, vice dean of the College of Maritime Studies for female students, highlights the specialized programs offered, including marine engineering, maritime navigation, marine surveying, supply chains, and maritime transport.

Graduates of these programs are equipped to work in various sectors such as port operations, maritime transport companies, and related entities in both the public and private sectors. The acceptance of female students in these specializations is seen as a step towards addressing the manpower shortage in the maritime industry. By providing opportunities for women to pursue careers in maritime studies, the university is helping to diversify the workforce and contribute to the industry’s growth. This initiative also reflects a broader commitment to gender equality and empowerment in Saudi Arabia.

Through the inclusion of female students in maritime specializations, King Abdulaziz University is not only advancing the representation of women in a traditionally male-dominated industry but also fostering innovation and excellence in the field. The focus on providing quality education and training in maritime studies is essential for developing a skilled workforce that can meet the demands of a rapidly evolving industry. By supporting the professional growth of Saudi women in maritime transport, the university is contributing to the overall socio-economic development of the country and aligning with global standards and best practices.

As the maritime transport industry continues to play a crucial role in the global economy, the inclusion of female students in specialized programs is a strategic move towards enhancing the sector’s competitiveness and ensuring its long-term sustainability. With a growing emphasis on diversifying the workforce and promoting gender equality, initiatives such as opening admission to female students in maritime studies are instrumental in driving positive change and empowering women in non-traditional fields. By investing in the capabilities of Saudi women and providing them with opportunities to excel in maritime specializations, King Abdulaziz University is contributing to the advancement of the maritime transport industry and the overall progress of the Kingdom.
