The Indian Embassy in Muscat has issued a warning against fraudulent calls that have been spoofing the embassy’s telephone lines in an attempt to cheat people for money. According to the advisory, the fraudsters are claiming to be from the Embassy and are asking for money to resolve passport and immigration matters. The public advisory cautions Indian nationals in Oman to be wary of calls from spoofed numbers, specifically mentioning the number +180071234.

The Embassy clarified that the number +180071234 is actually the 24×7 Toll Free Helpline number of the Community Welfare Wing of the Embassy and is not used to make outgoing calls. Any calls received from this number are considered to be fake and are coming from fraudsters. Indian nationals are urged to directly contact the Embassy using the helpline numbers provided in order to verify the authenticity of any calls they receive from spoofed numbers.

The advisory stressed the importance of verifying any suspicious calls directly with the Embassy in order to avoid falling victim to scams perpetrated by unscrupulous individuals. It is crucial for Indian nationals in Oman to exercise caution and vigilance when receiving calls from unfamiliar numbers, especially those claiming to be from official institutions such as the Indian Embassy.

The Embassy’s statement serves as a timely reminder for Indian nationals to remain cautious and alert in the face of increasing incidents of phone scams and fraud. By being proactive and verifying the authenticity of any calls received from unknown numbers, individuals can protect themselves from falling prey to fraudulent schemes that seek to exploit their trust and financial resources.

The advisory also highlights the importance of community welfare and the Embassy’s commitment to providing support and assistance to Indian nationals in Oman. By offering a toll-free helpline for individuals to reach out for help and guidance, the Embassy is reaffirming its dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens residing abroad.

In conclusion, the Indian Embassy’s warning against fraudulent calls spoofing their telephone lines is a timely reminder for Indian nationals in Oman to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of any suspicious calls they receive. By staying vigilant and contacting the Embassy directly to confirm the legitimacy of such calls, individuals can protect themselves from falling victim to scams and frauds orchestrated by unscrupulous individuals seeking to exploit their trust and financial resources.
