Finnish Foreign Minister: Qatar-Finland Relations Strengthened Over Previous Decades

The anticipated visit of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Finland has been warmly welcomed by Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland H E Elina Valtonen. She emphasized that the visit signifies the significant progress made in the relations between Qatar and Finland in recent years. The Minister highlighted the deepening and strengthening of the relations between the two countries, expressing optimism about the future potential for increased interaction in trade, investment, and collaboration on various issues and challenges.

Minister Valtonen emphasized Finland’s interest in Qatar as a potential political partner in effectively addressing crises in the Middle East and finding common ground on the Palestinian issue to achieve a peaceful resolution. She reiterated Finland’s commitment to upholding the international order based on democracy and freedom, underscoring the importance of dialogue and cooperation between the two countries in promoting peace and stability in the region and beyond.

In the realm of business and economic affairs, Finland has much to offer Qatar, including opportunities for investment and trade. The Minister stressed the significance of close cooperation between Qatar and Finland in addressing regional and geopolitical challenges, with a specific focus on tackling issues such as climate change. She also highlighted the importance of the direct flight between Doha and Helsinki in fostering greater business, investment, and cultural exchange between the two countries, as well as promoting tourism.

The recent second round of political consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs of Qatar and Finland in Helsinki further cemented the strong relationship between the two countries. Minister Valtonen expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the consultations, noting the shared commonalities that can be leveraged to deepen cooperation and collaboration in the future. She affirmed that the consultations will continue on a regular basis, signaling a commitment to ongoing dialogue and engagement between Qatar and Finland.
