Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has teamed up with Mubadala and Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) to expand the Abu Dhabi Canvas initiative. This initiative aims to transform the cityscape with vibrant murals created by Emirati and locally-based artists. The new project supports efforts to create inclusive and enriching public spaces by displaying artworks from five Emirati artists in the Rabdan area and showcasing artwork from four students who participated in the National Art Expressions exhibition at Delivery Riders Hubs.

In Rabdan, an array of artworks by five Emirati artists will be showcased across 17 murals, 26 crosswalks, and 15 utility boxes. These installations offer residents a dynamic visual experience that blends storytelling with everyday urban elements while celebrating local artistry. Salem Al Kaabi, Director General of Operational Affairs at DMT, expressed that through the partnership with Mubadala Foundation and ADEK, the city’s public spaces will be enhanced by infusing art into everyday infrastructures. These projects aim to create vibrant, engaging spaces that resonate with the community and reflect shared values through the Abu Dhabi Canvas initiative, celebrating the UAE’s rich cultural and artistic heritage.

The Delivery Riders Hubs located strategically across Abu Dhabi not only serve as essential service points for delivery drivers but also represent a joint effort to enhance urban infrastructure. These hubs are designed to promote community enrichment through art and are equipped with essential amenities such as shaded seating, air-conditioning, drinking water facilities, and phone charging stations. These amenities ensure a comfortable environment for delivery personnel as they serve the community. The hubs aim to provide a space for drivers to rest and recharge while adding artistic flair to the urban landscape.

The collaboration between DMT, Mubadala, and ADEK highlights the commitment to fostering creativity and community engagement through initiatives like Abu Dhabi Canvas. By showcasing local artists’ work in public spaces, the city not only beautifies its surroundings but also promotes cultural exchange and appreciation. These art installations serve as a platform for Emirati and locally-based artists to showcase their talent and contribute to the city’s vibrant art scene.

The partnership between the government, private sector, and education authorities demonstrates a comprehensive approach to urban development that prioritizes community well-being and cultural enrichment. By integrating art into public spaces and essential infrastructure like Delivery Riders Hubs, Abu Dhabi is creating a more vibrant and engaging environment for residents and visitors alike. These initiatives reflect the city’s commitment to supporting local artists, promoting cultural diversity, and enhancing the overall quality of life in Abu Dhabi.

Overall, the expansion of the Abu Dhabi Canvas initiative through collaborations with key stakeholders showcases the city’s dedication to creating inclusive, dynamic, and culturally rich public spaces. By integrating art into everyday urban elements, the initiative enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of the city while providing a platform for local artists to showcase their talent. Through initiatives like the Delivery Riders Hubs, Abu Dhabi is not only improving urban infrastructure but also promoting community engagement and cultural expression, making the city a more vibrant and inviting place for all.
