Employers in the Sultanate of Oman can now verify the data of their expat workers and update their wages through the SPF e-portal as announced by the Social Protection Fund (SPF). This move aligns with the government’s push towards electronic government services and the SPF’s commitment to providing transparent and efficient services. The SPF’s electronic portal, www.spf.gov.om, will allow employers to easily access and manage their workers’ data and wages.

The SPF issues monthly contribution invoices based on the worker data and wages available on the portal, with the next invoice set to be issued on August 31, 2024. Employers must make payments by September 15, 2024, to stay compliant with the regulations. To ensure smooth operations, employers are advised to familiarize themselves with the SPF e-portal and its functionalities, verify their workers’ data (both Omani and expat), update worker wages if needed, and regularly check the portal for any updates or notifications.

Controls for registering Omani and expat insured persons have been put in place to streamline the process. The employment contracts for Omanis and non-Omanis at the SPF are registered and terminated automatically through systems like Mawred/Rio for government units, direct connections with SPF, and the Ministry of Labour system for non-governmental sectors. Employers must ensure that their workers’ data is accurate and up-to-date to avoid any discrepancies in the contribution bill calculated by the SPF at the end of each month.

Non-governmental employers and government units with a direct connection to the SPF are required to update the wages of their workers (both Omanis and expats) through the electronic portal promptly whenever there are changes. For government units linked through Mawred and Rio systems, wage updates should be made through those systems. It is crucial for employers to verify their workers’ data and wages on a monthly basis to avoid any issues with the contribution bill issued by the SPF.

In conclusion, the SPF’s move towards electronic services aims to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the social protection system in Oman. Employers are encouraged to utilize the SPF e-portal to manage their workers’ data and wages effectively, ensuring compliance with the payment deadlines and regulations. By staying informed and proactive in verifying and updating worker information, employers can contribute to a smoother and more streamlined process for social protection contributions in the Sultanate of Oman.
