Consumers in Dubai have the right to file a complaint with the Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) if they encounter issues such as paying full price despite advertised discounts or receiving a defective product. The Federal Decree No. 5 of 2023 allows consumers to seek compensation for damages caused by using goods or services. Under this decree, suppliers are required to offer repair, replacement, or a refund in case of flaws in the product or service. It is also mandatory for suppliers to clearly indicate the price of goods, avoid misleading advertising, and honor warranties.

Any violation of the consumer protection law can result in fines of up to Dh2 million and imprisonment of up to 2 years. This law, which came into effect in October 2023, aims to protect consumers from unfair business practices. To file a consumer complaint in Dubai, individuals can follow a set of steps outlined on the Consumer Rights website. By clicking on the menu icon on the left side of the page and selecting ‘consumer complaints (C2B)’, consumers can access the complaint submission portal. They will need to provide personal details, information about the company, type of complaint, and attach supporting documents before submitting the complaint.

After submitting the complaint, consumers will receive a reference number on the website, as well as through their registered mobile number and email. This reference number can be used to track the status of the complaint. By following these steps, consumers can ensure that their concerns are addressed effectively and in a timely manner. It is important for consumers to be aware of their rights and take action when they feel that they have been treated unfairly by a supplier. By filing a complaint, consumers can hold businesses accountable for their actions and protect themselves from potential financial losses or harm.

Consumer complaints play a crucial role in maintaining a fair and transparent marketplace. By reporting violations of consumer rights, individuals contribute to the enforcement of regulations that protect all consumers from deceptive practices. Through the complaint filing process, consumers can seek resolution for any issues they encounter while purchasing goods or services. By being proactive in addressing concerns and seeking redress, consumers can help improve the overall quality of products and services available in the market.

In conclusion, consumers in Dubai have the right to file complaints with the Department of Economy and Tourism to address issues related to product quality, pricing discrepancies, and misleading advertising. The Federal Decree No. 5 of 2023 provides consumers with the legal framework to seek compensation for damages caused by faulty goods or services. By following the steps outlined on the Consumer Rights website, individuals can submit complaints and track their progress using a unique reference number. It is essential for consumers to be informed about their rights and take action when they encounter unfair business practices. By working together to report violations and seek resolution, consumers can help create a more ethical and accountable marketplace for all.
