The Sultanate of Oman has seen a steady increase in the number of visitors, with a total of 2.3 million tourists arriving by the end of July 2024. This marks a 2.4% rise compared to the same period in 2023, according to the latest tourism indicators report from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). In July 2024, the country welcomed 371,394 visitors, although this was a slight decline of 1.3% compared to July 2023.

During July 2024, GCC visitors made up the majority with 56% of the total number of tourists, followed by Asian visitors at 89,007 and Arab visitors at 48,221. The number of European visitors reached 13,379, while visitors from other regions included 6,092 from Africa, 5,271 from the Americas, and 939 from Oceania. The diversity of visitors highlights Oman’s appeal as a tourist destination for travelers from around the world.

Revenues from 3-5 star hotels in Oman saw a significant increase, reaching RO 132.3 million by the end of July 2024. This marked a 7.9% rise compared to the same period in 2023. Room revenues also increased by 8.3% to reach RO 76.6 million, while other revenues grew by 7.3% to stand at RO 55.7 million. The number of guests staying at hotels in Oman increased by 9.3% to reach 1,204,426 by the end of July 2024.

Despite the increase in visitors, the occupancy rate at hotels in Oman stood at 46.7% by the end of July 2024. This suggests that there is still potential for growth in the tourism sector, as the country continues to attract more tourists from different regions. The steady increase in tourism revenues and the number of visitors reflects the appeal of Oman as a travel destination, offering a unique blend of culture, history, and natural beauty for visitors to explore and enjoy.

Oman’s tourism sector is poised for further growth in the coming years, with ongoing efforts to promote the country as a premier travel destination. The diverse range of attractions, from stunning landscapes and historic sites to luxury resorts and cultural experiences, continues to draw visitors from around the world. With a focus on sustainability and responsible tourism, Oman is committed to preserving its natural environment and promoting authentic cultural experiences for tourists to enjoy.

As the tourism industry in Oman continues to thrive, there are opportunities for investment and development in infrastructure, accommodations, and attractions to cater to the growing number of visitors. The government’s support for the tourism sector, along with ongoing initiatives to enhance the visitor experience, will contribute to the sustainable growth of the industry. With its unique offerings and welcoming hospitality, Oman is well-positioned to become a top destination for travelers seeking a memorable and enriching travel experience in the Middle East.
