Bahrain reiterates its support for humanitarian efforts in Sudan at high-level UN meeting

Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, recently participated in a high-level ministerial meeting in New York addressing the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. Organized by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in collaboration with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the meeting gathered significant regional and international participation. Dr. Shaikh Abdullah expressed Bahrain’s deep appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s initiative in convening the meeting, which was titled “Urgent and Collective Support to Expand the Humanitarian Response in Sudan and the Region.”

During the meeting, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah also acknowledged the key roles played by Saudi Arabia, along with the UAE, Egypt, the USA, Switzerland, the African Union, and the United Nations, in supporting the “Coalition to Save Lives and Achieve Peace in Sudan.” He emphasized Bahrain’s commitment to supporting international diplomatic and humanitarian initiatives aimed at achieving the objectives outlined in the “Jeddah Declaration,” which aims to protect civilians in Sudan, peacefully resolve the conflict, and end the 17-month-long war. Dr. Shaikh Abdullah stressed the urgent need for full, rapid, and safe access to humanitarian aid in line with international humanitarian law and human rights principles.

Furthermore, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah reiterated Bahrain’s firm stance on promoting peace and stability in Sudan through dialogue and peaceful means. Ambassador Fatima Abdullah Al Dhaen, the Director-General of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was also present at the meeting and emphasized Bahrain’s commitment to fostering international cooperation in addressing humanitarian crises. The high-level meeting brought together key stakeholders from around the world to discuss coordinated efforts to alleviate the dire humanitarian situation in Sudan and ensure a collective, sustainable response.

The meeting emphasized the importance of coordinated international efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and the region. It highlighted the urgent need for immediate access to humanitarian aid in compliance with international humanitarian law and human rights principles.
