In a bid to promote sustainable practices and recycling in Abu Dhabi, two new recycling units will be installed in Al Ain and Al Dhafra. These devices will allow residents to deposit empty plastic bottles, which will then be recycled. The units, located in main bus stations, will also offer residents the opportunity to earn points for recycling. To participate, residents must download the Cycled Rewards app, where they will receive one point for each 600ml bottle and two points for larger bottles.

The points earned through recycling can be converted into dirhams and added to the residents’ Hafilat card, which is used to pay for public transport fares in Abu Dhabi. This initiative is part of a larger collaboration between Abu Dhabi Mobility, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, and Cycled Technologies. Cycled Technologies specializes in manufacturing and deploying smart recycling stations and reverse vending machines (RVM) in the UAE. The initiative was initially introduced in 2022 by Abu Dhabi Mobility, formerly known as the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC).

The overall goal of this initiative is to encourage residents to adopt sustainable habits such as recycling and promote environmental conservation. By incentivizing recycling through the Cycled Rewards app and providing practical solutions like the recycling units in bus stations, Abu Dhabi aims to make recycling more accessible and convenient for residents. This initiative aligns with the larger global goal of reducing waste and promoting a circular economy. Through partnerships with organizations such as the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi and Cycled Technologies, Abu Dhabi Mobility is committed to driving positive change in the community.

As individuals become more conscious of their environmental impact and the importance of sustainable practices, initiatives like the one introduced by Abu Dhabi Mobility become increasingly relevant. By leveraging technology, such as the Cycled Rewards app, and providing tangible rewards for recycling, residents are incentivized to participate in eco-friendly behaviors. This not only benefits the environment by reducing waste but also contributes to a cleaner and healthier community. Additionally, by incorporating recycling units in high-traffic areas like bus stations, the initiative makes it easier for residents to engage in recycling on a daily basis.

In conclusion, the installation of new recycling units in Al Ain and Al Dhafra, coupled with the Cycled Rewards app, represents a significant step towards promoting sustainability and environmental consciousness in Abu Dhabi. By offering residents the opportunity to earn rewards for recycling and converting points into dirhams for public transport fares, Abu Dhabi Mobility is effectively encouraging a culture of recycling and waste reduction in the community. Through strategic partnerships and innovative solutions, Abu Dhabi is setting a positive example for other cities and regions to follow in the journey towards a greener and more sustainable future.
