These devices will allow residents to deposit empty plastic bottles, which will then be recycled. To participate, residents must download the Cycled Rewards app, where they will receive one point for each 600ml bottle and two points for larger bottles.
The points earned through recycling can be converted into dirhams and added to the residents’ Hafilat card, which is used to pay for public transport fares in Abu Dhabi. This initiative is part of a larger collaboration between Abu Dhabi Mobility, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, and Cycled Technologies. Cycled Technologies specializes in manufacturing and deploying smart recycling stations and reverse vending machines (RVM) in the UAE. The initiative was initially introduced in 2022 by Abu Dhabi Mobility, formerly known as the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC).
