The new Dhofar Pharmaceutical Industries Factory in Salalah represents a major advancement in Oman’s healthcare sector, with an investment exceeding OMR15 million. The cutting-edge facility aims to enhance the nation’s drug security and reduce reliance on imports by producing intravenous and kidney dialysis solutions locally. During the opening ceremony, presided over by Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef and Health Minister Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, it was emphasized that the factory will play a critical role in meeting both local and regional demand for pharmaceutical solutions, thus strengthening Oman’s health security and reducing import dependence.

Situated in Raysut Industrial City on a sprawling 22,000-square-metre area, the factory is equipped with advanced German technologies and adheres to the highest international standards. Its annual production capacity of 15 million units of intravenous solutions and 2.3 million units of kidney dialysis solutions is expected to meet the estimated demand of 5 million units annually within Oman’s health sector. The project is a result of the Health Sector Investment Lab, launched by the Ministry of Health in 2022 in collaboration with Nazdar and in alignment with Oman Vision 2040. This new addition to the industrial expansion in Dhofar Governorate is anticipated to support Oman’s strategic objectives in health and industry.

Sheikh Salem bin Ali Amer Jaid Al Mahri, Chairman of Dhofar Pharmaceutical Industries, emphasized the company’s focus on leveraging national talent and expertise to ensure high-quality production. Dr. Mohammed bin Hamdan Al-Rubaie, Director General of the Drug Safety Centre at the Ministry of Health, highlighted that the facility complies with both US FDA and European Medicines Agency standards, enhancing Oman’s self-sufficiency in essential medical supplies. The factory is expected to stabilize local prices and reduce the country’s dependency on volatile international markets, solidifying Oman’s position in the global pharmaceutical industry and promoting research and innovation in the sector.

This significant project represents a crucial step towards building a more resilient and sustainable health system in Oman. By reducing reliance on imports and increasing local production of essential medical supplies, the country is better equipped to respond to emergencies and improve patient care. The opening of the Dhofar Pharmaceutical Industries Factory marks a significant milestone in Oman’s journey towards achieving self-sufficiency in pharmaceuticals and strengthening its healthcare infrastructure. The new facility is expected to have far-reaching benefits for the nation’s healthcare sector, supporting economic growth and enhancing healthcare services for Omani citizens.
