The Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces, Vice Admiral Abdullah Khamis Al Raisi, recently met with the Commander of the French Forces in the Indian Ocean and discussed various military matters of mutual interest. The meeting was attended by other senior officials from both sides, including the military attaché to the Embassy of the French Republic in Muscat. In a separate visit, Rear Admiral Hugues Lainé of the French Navy and his delegation visited the Maritime Security Centre (MSC) where they were briefed on the centre’s tactical roles and tasks in ensuring the safety of the Omani maritime environment. The delegation also had the opportunity to tour the centre’s facilities and view its latest equipment and technologies.

The meeting between Vice Admiral Abdullah Khamis Al Raisi and the Commander of the French Forces in the Indian Ocean highlights the strong and longstanding military cooperation between Oman and France. Both sides have a shared interest in regional security and stability, and regularly engage in discussions to enhance their military capabilities and coordination. The presence of the French military delegation in Muscat demonstrates the strategic importance of the relationship between the two countries and their commitment to working together on various defense-related issues.

During the meeting at the Al Murtafa’a Garrison, Vice Admiral Abdullah Khamis Al Raisi and the French military delegation exchanged views on a range of military matters, including counter-terrorism, maritime security, and regional stability. The presence of Brigadier Hamid Abdullah Al Balushi, SAF Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations and Planning, underscored the importance of cooperation and coordination between the two military forces. The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to share best practices, expertise, and insights to further strengthen their defense capabilities and enhance their ability to address common security challenges.

In a separate visit to the Maritime Security Centre, Rear Admiral Hugues Lainé and the French military delegation received a comprehensive briefing on the centre’s role in safeguarding the Omani maritime environment. The delegation gained insight into the centre’s operational strategies, procedures, and technologies, as well as its collaborative efforts with other regional and international maritime security partners. The visit to the MSC allowed the French delegation to deepen their understanding of Oman’s maritime security priorities and initiatives, and explore potential areas for future cooperation and collaboration.

The Maritime Security Centre plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of Oman’s maritime environment, which is vital for the country’s economic prosperity and national security. By hosting international visitors, such as the French military delegation, the MSC demonstrates its commitment to transparency, cooperation, and information sharing with its global partners. The visit also serves as a platform for promoting dialogue and building relationships between Oman and France, and fostering mutual understanding and trust in the domain of maritime security.

Overall, the recent interactions between the Sultan’s Armed Forces and the French military delegation underscore the importance of bilateral cooperation in defense and security matters. The meetings and visits facilitated dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaboration on key strategic issues, further enhancing the strong ties between Oman and France. Moving forward, both countries can continue to work together to address common security challenges, promote regional stability, and uphold shared values of peace, security, and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.
