The State of Qatar recently presided over a meeting of GCC countries’ ambassadors accredited to the United Nations Office in Vienna. The meeting, held at the headquarters of the GCC Permanent Mission in Vienna, was chaired by the Ambassador of the State of Qatar and its Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and International Organizations in Vienna, HE Jassim Yacoub Al Hammadi. Discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the GCC countries and the United Nations Office in Vienna. Emphasis was placed on the importance of holding regular meetings between officials from both sides to enhance collaboration and foster mutual understanding.

One of the key topics discussed during the meeting was the activation of the memorandum of understanding signed between the GCC General Secretariat and the UNODC. Participants also considered the possibility of organizing workshops at the headquarters of the GCC Permanent Mission, to be led by experts from the United Nations Office. The aim of these workshops would be to explore ways to benefit from the training programs offered by the Office and to deepen the knowledge and skills of participants in areas related to drugs and crime prevention.

The meeting highlighted the commitment of the GCC countries to working closely with the United Nations Office in Vienna to address pressing issues related to drugs and crime. By strengthening their cooperation and sharing best practices, the GCC countries and the UNODC can work together more effectively to combat the global challenges posed by drug trafficking and organized crime. The participants also underscored the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration between the two parties to achieve common goals and objectives in the field of drug and crime prevention.

In addition to discussing cooperation initiatives and training programs, the meeting also explored ways to enhance information sharing and exchange between the GCC countries and the United Nations Office in Vienna. Participants emphasized the need for regular communication and coordination to ensure that relevant information and data are shared in a timely manner to support joint efforts in combating drug trafficking and organized crime. By strengthening information sharing mechanisms, the GCC countries and the UNODC can improve their ability to respond effectively to emerging threats and challenges in the field of drug and crime prevention.

Overall, the meeting between the GCC countries’ ambassadors and the Executive Director of the UNODC in Vienna highlighted the strong commitment of both parties to working together to address common challenges and achieve shared objectives in the field of drug and crime prevention. By leveraging the expertise and resources of the United Nations Office, the GCC countries can enhance their capacity to combat drug trafficking and organized crime and contribute to global efforts to promote peace, security, and development.
