Saudi Arabia and the Philippines are set to strengthen their cooperation in the field of energy following a recent meeting between the countries’ energy ministries. The agreement, which was signed by Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, the Minister of Energy for Saudi Arabia, and Rafael Lotilla, the Energy Secretary of the Philippines, encourages collaboration in various areas such as petroleum, petrochemicals, gas, electricity, renewable energy, and energy efficiency. The two parties discussed mutual interests and explored investment opportunities in petroleum supplies, renewable energy, and energy efficiency during the meeting in Riyadh.

Furthermore, the agreement also aims to develop cooperation in the circular carbon economy and related technologies, with a specific focus on addressing climate change through initiatives like carbon capture, reuse, transport, and storage. This highlights both countries’ commitment to sustainability and reducing their carbon footprint. In addition to this, the agreement emphasizes enhancing cooperation in digital transformation, innovation, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence, which are key areas for the energy sector as it continues to evolve and adapt to new technologies.

Both Saudi Arabia and the Philippines recognize the importance of developing partnerships to localize materials, products, and services across all energy sectors. This includes the use and development of sustainable polymeric materials in construction and other industries, showcasing their commitment to environmentally friendly practices. By building strong collaborations in these areas, both countries are poised to make significant strides in advancing their energy sectors while also contributing to global efforts in mitigating climate change and promoting sustainability.
