ICC raises prize money for Women’s T20 World Cup to $7.9 million

The upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE is set to offer a record-breaking total of $7.96 million in prize money, as announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The winners of the tournament will receive $2.34 million, which is more than double the prize awarded to Australia in the previous edition. India, the winners of the men’s T20 World Cup earlier this year, received $2.45 million from a total of $11.25 million in prize money. This move is part of the ICC’s strategy to prioritize and accelerate the growth of the women’s game by 2032.

According to the ICC statement, teams will now receive equal prize money for equivalent finishing positions at comparable events, as well as the same amount for winning a match at these events. The prize money for the men’s T20 World Cup 2024 event is higher due to the participation of 10 additional teams and 32 more matches. The losing finalists of the Women’s T20 World Cup will receive $1.17 million, while each of the 10 participating teams are guaranteed $112,500. The tournament is scheduled to take place from October 3 to 20 in the UAE, having been moved from Bangladesh due to political turmoil and violence.
