An Asian man in Bahrain was convicted of attempted murder in a dispute over an ice block sale and is now appealing his 7-year prison sentence and deportation order. The High Appeals Court is set to hear his appeal on September 23rd. The incident occurred in the central market area of Manama after a verbal altercation between the victim, another ice seller, and the defendant, who worked in the same field, escalated into a physical fight.

The defendant, a 44-year-old ice vendor, was found guilty of attacking the victim, resulting in multiple stab wounds and a permanent disability. The victim sustained injuries including broken teeth and stab wounds to his back, shoulder, arm, elbow, and abdomen, leaving him with a 10% permanent disability. Witnesses saw the defendant pursuing the victim, stabbing him multiple times before being stopped by bystanders. The defendant fled the scene, leaving behind the knife used in the attack.

A witness testified to seeing the victim covered in blood and identifying the defendant as the attacker. Police were called, and the defendant was apprehended shortly after the incident. The defendant’s legal team is expected to argue that the sentence is excessive and that mitigating factors were not fully considered by the court. They may also challenge the evidence presented by the prosecution, questioning the intent to kill.

The outcome of the appeal will determine whether the defendant’s sentence stands or is reduced. If the appeal is successful, the defendant could have his sentence shortened or avoid deportation. The victim, on the other hand, is left with a permanent disability as a result of the attack. The case highlights the importance of resolving disputes peacefully and the consequences of resorting to violence in heated situations.

Overall, the case of the Asian ice vendor convicted of attempted murder in Bahrain sheds light on the consequences of violent disputes in the country. The defendant’s appeal will be heard by the High Appeals Court, where his legal team is expected to challenge the sentence and evidence presented by the prosecution. The victim, who sustained serious injuries in the attack, has been left with a permanent disability as a result of the incident. The outcome of the appeal will determine the future of the defendant’s sentence and deportation order.
