Manchester United secured a much-needed 3-0 victory against Southampton in the Premier League, with new signing Matthijs de Ligt scoring his first goal for the club. Marcus Rashford also found the back of the net for the first time since March, ending a goal drought that had lasted for 13 games. This victory comes after a shaky start to the season for United, who had suffered back-to-back losses prior to this game.

The match started with Southampton dominating play, but the tide turned in United’s favor when goalkeeper Andre Onana saved Cameron Archer’s penalty in the 34th minute. Just a minute later, De Ligt scored a brilliant header from a cross by Bruno Fernandes, giving United the lead. Rashford then doubled the advantage with a superb long-range shot into the far corner just before halftime. The game took a turn for the worse for Southampton when defender Jack Stephens was sent off in the 79th minute for a high tackle.

Alejandro Garnacho sealed the victory for United with a late goal, adding to the woes of newly promoted Southampton, who are still without a point in the league. Despite their slow start to the season, United now have six points from four matches and will be looking to build on this momentum in the coming games. Manager Erik ten Hag will be pleased with his team’s performance and will hope that this result marks a turning point in their campaign.

This win not only boosts the confidence of the United players but also sends a clear message to their rivals that they are still a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League. Rashford’s return to scoring form will be a huge positive for the team, as they look to challenge for the top spots in the league. With De Ligt also opening his account for the club, United fans will be excited about the potential that this new signing brings to the team.

Overall, this victory against Southampton is a much-needed boost for Manchester United, who will be looking to capitalize on this result and push for a successful season. The team showed resilience and quality in their performance, bouncing back from a difficult start to the campaign. With key players like De Ligt and Rashford finding their form, United’s fans can look forward to a promising season ahead. This win will serve as a turning point for the team as they aim to climb up the Premier League standings and compete for silverware.
