Omani cyclist Shabib Al Balushi emerges victorious in Salalah Mountain Bike Race

Omani cyclist Shabib Al Balushi emerged victorious in the Salalah Mountain Bike Race, held as part of the Salalah Tour’s fourth edition. The event, organized by Dhofar Municipality in collaboration with the Oman Cycling Federation and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, drew a large number of participants from Oman and beyond. In the general category, Al Balushi took the top spot, followed by Shahab Al Qamshoui in second place and Hilal Al Shahumi in third. The race also featured youth, women’s, and 40+ categories, showcasing the diversity of participants.

In the under 23 division, Omani cyclist Mundhir Al Hasani claimed the first position, with Yahya Al Qasimi and Mohammed Hassan from Kuwait securing second and third places, respectively. The women’s category saw Mary Grace from the Philippines clinching the top spot, followed by British rider Emma Fonton in second place and Omani cyclist Amira Al Obaidani in third. In the 40+ category, British rider Tim Fontaine took first place, with Omani cyclists Labib Al Lawati and Mansour Al Mahrouqi rounding out the podium.

The race covered a distance of 18 kilometers, consisting of three laps of 6 kilometers each. Participants showcased their skills and endurance as they navigated the challenging course, vying for top positions in their respective categories. The event marked a celebration of cycling and sportsmanship, bringing together cyclists of all ages and backgrounds to compete in a spirited race in the picturesque setting of Salalah.

Khalifa bin Khamis Al Jabri, Vice President of the Oman Cycling Federation, presided over the closing ceremony, where he awarded the winners and recognized the efforts of the supporting organizations that contributed to the success of the race. The event highlighted the growing popularity of cycling in Oman, with the federation and local authorities working together to promote the sport and provide opportunities for cyclists to showcase their talent on a competitive stage.

The Salalah Mountain Bike Race served as a platform for cyclists to test their skills and push their limits in a challenging and scenic environment. Participants experienced the thrill of racing through the mountains and valleys of Salalah, showcasing their physical and mental fortitude as they tackled the demanding course. The event drew a diverse field of cyclists, each bringing their unique strengths and determination to the race, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and friendly competition.

The success of the race underscored the passion and dedication of the cycling community in Oman, as well as the commitment of organizers and sponsors to promoting healthy and active lifestyles through sports. As Oman continues to build its reputation as a hub for cycling events, the Salalah Mountain Bike Race stands out as a premier competition that attracts top talent from the region and beyond. With each edition, the race continues to grow in popularity and prestige, solidifying its status as a must-attend event for cycling enthusiasts and spectators alike.
