US singer-songwriter Taylor Swift continued her reign at the MTV Video Music Awards, where she won a whopping seven awards, including the prestigious video of the year award. In her speech, Swift thanked her boyfriend Travis, who was on set of her music video “Fortnight.” She also urged her fans over 18 to register to vote in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. Swift’s total VMA wins now tie her with Beyonce for the most awarded musician in VMA history.

Swift and Post Malone also took home the award for best collaboration for their song “Fortnight,” and Swift paid tribute to the victims of 9/11 in her acceptance speech. Chappell Roan won the award for best new artist, while Sabrina Carpenter took home the trophy for song of the year with “Espresso.” Katy Perry was honored with the Video Vanguard Award and performed a medley of her biggest hits, including a new song featuring Doechii.

The night also featured performances from artists like Eminem, Megan Thee Stallion, Karol G, Rauw Alejandro, Blackpink’s LISA, and Shawn Mendes. LL COOL J celebrated 40 years of Def Jam Records with Public Enemy’s Flavor Flav and Chuck D, while Halsey took the stage with her new single “Ego.” Anitta, Camilla Cabello, Benson Boone, Lenny Kravitz, and many others also graced the VMA stage with electrifying performances.

The 40th VMAs took place at the UBS Arena on New York’s Long Island, with a star-studded guest list and plenty of iconic moments from the past 40 years of VMA history. Taylor Swift made a stylish entrance in a green tartan corset and matching train, along with long black leather gloves. Throughout the night, MTV paid tribute to historical VMA moments, such as Britney Spears’ albino python and Madonna’s performance of “Like A Virgin.”

Overall, the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards was a night filled with incredible performances, well-deserved winners, and memorable moments. Taylor Swift’s success at the awards, along with the performances from a diverse range of artists, made it a night to remember. The VMAs continue to be a platform for celebrating the best in music and honoring the talents of both new and established artists. As the music industry evolves, the VMAs remain a staple event in recognizing the achievements of the industry’s brightest stars.
