France coach Didier Deschamps has expressed his confidence in Kylian Mbappe’s form and expects the Real Madrid forward to regain his scoring touch once he reaches full fitness. Following a 3-1 defeat by Italy in their Nations League opener, Deschamps made significant changes to the team against Belgium, with Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann starting on the bench in a 2-0 win. Mbappe struggled at Euro 2024 after breaking his nose but Deschamps believes he will improve in the coming weeks.

Deschamps emphasized the importance of Mbappe to the French team and is not worried about the demands on him at Real Madrid. Mbappe was a bright spot in the match against Belgium, coming on as a substitute and showing glimpses of his talent. Deschamps is also using the Nations League as an opportunity to test new players and expand the talent pool for the national team, regardless of the results. He acknowledges that the numerous changes to the line-up may not be ideal, but believes it is necessary for the team’s development.

The match against Italy saw Michael Olise and Manu Kone earning their first caps, while Lucas Digne made his return to the national team after two years. Matteo Guendouzi also made his comeback, showcasing Deschamps’ commitment to exploring different player options. Deschamps remains focused on his goal of giving more players opportunities to prove themselves, even if it means sacrificing immediate results. He understands that building a strong team requires patience and experimentation.

Deschamps’ strategy of rotating players and testing new talent may not always yield positive outcomes in terms of wins, but he believes it is a necessary process for the team’s long-term success. While he acknowledges the challenges that come with constant changes to the line-up, Deschamps sees it as a valuable learning experience for both the players and the coaching staff. The focus is on developing a deep and competitive squad that can adapt to different situations and opponents.

In conclusion, Deschamps’ trust in Mbappe’s abilities and his willingness to explore new options demonstrate his commitment to building a strong and versatile French national team. Despite the occasional setbacks, Deschamps remains steadfast in his approach and believes that the sacrifices made now will pay off in the future. The development of young talents like Olise, Kone, and Guendouzi highlights the coach’s vision for the team’s evolution. With Mbappe leading the charge and a diverse pool of players to choose from, France looks poised for continued success on the international stage.
