Emirates flights from Dubai to Nairobi were cancelled on September 11 due to an “industrial action.” Passengers on affected flights were rebooked to the next available flight. The strike by workers at Nairobi’s main airport caused delays and cancellations for passengers. The strike was in response to a proposed deal for India’s Adani Group to lease the airport for 30 years, leading to concerns about job losses and non-Kenyan workers.

Despite the government’s assertions that the airport is operating above capacity and in need of modernization, it has stated that the airport is not for sale. The Kenya Airports Authority resumed minimal operations at the airport and is working to normalize the situation. Videos on social media showed long queues of passengers outside the airport terminal due to the strike. The high court temporarily blocked the Adani proposal to allow for a judicial review challenging the lease.

Passengers affected by the cancellations can inquire about accommodation at the check-in counter, although it is not guaranteed. Stay updated on the latest news by following KT on WhatsApp Channels. The strike at Nairobi’s airport has caused disruptions for incoming and outgoing flights, impacting travelers. The Kenya Aviation Workers Union is protesting against the proposed Adani lease, citing concerns about job losses and non-Kenyan workers.

The government has not made a decision on whether to proceed with the proposed public-private partnership to upgrade the airport. The strike began at midnight on Tuesday, with hundreds of passengers facing long queues outside the airport terminal. The temporary block on the Adani proposal allows time for legal challenges to the lease. Emirates has confirmed flight cancellations and rebooked affected passengers on alternate flights.

Overall, the industrial action at Nairobi’s airport has led to flight delays and cancellations, impacting inbound and outbound passengers. The strike was in response to the proposed lease of the airport to India’s Adani Group, raising concerns about job security and non-Kenyan employees. Passengers affected by the cancellations have been rebooked on alternative flights, with the situation being closely monitored by authorities. Stay updated on the latest developments by following reliable news sources for information on future flights and travel plans.
