The Fire Station in Doha, Qatar has launched the “A House Overlooking The World” exhibition as part of its 8th edition of the Artist in Residence (AIR) programme. The exhibition features the works of 17 artists who were part of the residency programme from 2023 to 2024. The exhibition will be open to the public until December 31, 2024. The theme of the exhibition revolves around the idea of finding a sense of self in a constantly changing world and explores the concept of home in contemporary society.

The exhibition delves into themes of urban identity and what defines it, offering a unique perspective on the individuals who shape society. The artists’ artworks explore environmental, social, and cultural themes, highlighting the relationship between individuals, their environment, and the space around them. Through their diverse narratives and emotions, the artists aim to provoke discussions on identity and belonging, inviting viewers to reflect on their own relationships with their surroundings.

Khalifa Al Obaidly, Director of Fire Station, commended the artists for their introspective work and skillful representation. He emphasized the importance of supporting local artists and nurturing their talent to help them realize their potential. The Artist in Residence programme at Fire Station offers emerging and mid-career artists access to mentorship, production support, studio space, and fabrication facilities to enhance their creative skills and facilitate their artistic development.

The programme has been a resounding success, with opportunities for artists to participate in residencies at prestigious institutions such as the Cite Internationale des Art in Paris and Studio 209 NY in New York City. Collaborating with local entities and organisations, Fire Station enriches the programme through workshops and projects, fostering engagement within the artistic community and beyond. The success of the programme is evident in the quality of the exhibition, showcasing the diverse talents of the artists who have participated in the residency programme.

Saida Al Khulaifi, Head of Programs and Exhibitions at Fire Station, praised the artists for their exceptional work and the impact of the exhibition. As the exhibition continues to captivate audiences with its thought-provoking themes and diverse artworks, it serves as a testament to the vibrancy and creativity of Qatar’s artistic community. The “A House Overlooking The World” exhibition offers a unique opportunity for visitors to gain insight into the artists’ perspectives on identity, belonging, and the ever-evolving world in which we live.

In conclusion, “A House Overlooking The World” exhibition at Fire Station is a celebration of artistic talent and creativity, providing a platform for local artists to showcase their work and engage with audiences on important themes.
