The UAE’s tourism sector is experiencing significant growth, with international tourist arrivals and hotel bookings on the rise. The country’s Tourism Strategy 2031 aims to attract Dh100 billion in tourism investments and increase the sector’s contribution to the GDP to Dh450 billion by 2031. In 2023, the tourism sector contributed 11.7 per cent of the UAE’s GDP, totaling Dh220 billion, a figure expected to increase to 12 per cent or Dh236 billion in 2024 according to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC).

The WTTC projects that the travel and tourism contribution to the UAE GDP will reach around Dh275.2 by 2034, supported by the country’s world-class infrastructure, including airports, accommodations, and thrilling tourist attractions. Dubai welcomed 10.62 million tourists in the first seven months of 2024, representing an 8 per cent increase year-on-year. Similarly, Abu Dhabi’s hotels hosted over 2.87 million guests in the first half of 2024, generating Dh3.6 billion, a 19.5 per cent growth compared to the previous year.

These achievements underscore the success of the UAE’s sustainable tourism policies, robust infrastructure, diversified tourist destinations, and ongoing commitment to development under the National Tourism Strategy 2031. With continued investment and strategic planning, the UAE’s tourism sector is poised for continued growth and economic contributions.

The tourism sector’s performance aligns with the UAE’s vision for sustainable growth and development. By attracting foreign investments and increasing the sector’s contribution to the GDP, the country is positioning itself as a leading global destination for tourists. The WTTC’s projections indicate a positive trajectory for the UAE’s tourism industry, highlighting the country’s ability to create compelling and attractive experiences for visitors.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi’s impressive tourist arrivals and hotel bookings reflect the overall success of the UAE’s tourism strategy. With a focus on quality infrastructure, diverse attractions, and sustainable practices, the country has been able to create a thriving tourism sector that continues to attract visitors from around the world. This growth is not only beneficial for the economy but also showcases the UAE as a desirable destination for leisure and business travelers alike.

As the UAE looks towards the future, the tourism sector is positioned as a key driver of economic growth and diversification. The government’s commitment to the National Tourism Strategy 2031 underscores its dedication to fostering a sustainable and competitive tourism industry. By leveraging its unique attractions, infrastructure, and policies, the UAE is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing global demand for travel and tourism experiences.

Overall, the UAE’s tourism sector is experiencing significant growth and success, with international tourist arrivals and hotel bookings on the rise. With a clear vision for the future and ongoing investments in infrastructure and attractions, the country is well-positioned to achieve its ambitious goals outlined in the Tourism Strategy 2031. By continuing to prioritize sustainability, quality, and innovation, the UAE is set to solidify its position as a leading global tourism destination for years to come.
