Saudi Arabia has secured the bid to host the United Nations World Data Forum in Riyadh in 2026, as announced by the Saudi General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT). The decision was made by the High-level Group for Partnership, Coordination and Capacity-Building for Statistics for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development after a competitive bidding process. This global event is expected to attract around 22,000 delegates from 193 countries, including data scientists, officials of the statistical offices of UN member states, and individuals interested in statistics.

Dr. Fahad Aldossari, President of GASTAT, presented Saudi Arabia’s bid to the HLG-PCCB group, emphasizing the Kingdom’s advancements in statistical work and experience in hosting international events. The proposed theme for the forum is “Using the latest technologies and methodologies to enhance global statistical systems and enable sustainable development.” Aldossari highlighted the essential role of statistical data in driving comprehensive and sustainable development across various fields, noting that Saudi Arabia’s successful bid reflects the country’s commitment to supporting the statistical sector.

The hosting of the UN World Data Forum in 2026 is seen as a significant milestone for Saudi Arabia, showcasing its prominent status on the global stage. This achievement also underscores the dedication of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to promoting the statistical sector.
