Aryna Sabalenka claimed her third Grand Slam crown by winning the US Open in a thrilling final against Jessica Pegula. She triumphed in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5, to add the New York title to her two consecutive Australian Open victories. Pegula put up a tough fight, leading 5-3 in the second set after being down 0-3, but Sabalenka ultimately emerged victorious with 40 winners in the match, becoming the first woman since Angelique Kerber in 2016 to win both hardcourt majors in the same season. This win was a redemption for Sabalenka, who had lost the US Open final the previous year.

Sabalenka struggled in the early stages of the match, making errors that gave Pegula an early break. However, she quickly leveled the score and eventually took the lead with dominant play. The match was played in front of a full crowd, which included notable personalities like Olympic gold medallist Noah Lyles, NBA star Steph Curry, and former F1 champion Lewis Hamilton. Despite the crowd mostly supporting Pegula, Sabalenka’s powerful hitting and determination proved to be too much for her opponent.

Despite Pegula’s efforts to claw her way back into the match, Sabalenka maintained her composure and closed out the victory in straight sets. Pegula, who had upset top-ranked players in earlier rounds, was unable to withstand Sabalenka’s relentless attacks. The match showcased a contrast in playing styles, with Sabalenka’s aggressive hitting overpowering Pegula’s defensive game. Sabalenka’s performance was highlighted by her 25 winners and 23 unforced errors, outshining Pegula’s nine winners and 11 errors in the first set.

This win solidifies Sabalenka’s status as one of the top players in the women’s game, with her third Grand Slam title in her young career. Her aggressive style of play and powerful shots have proven to be effective on the hard courts of major tournaments. Sabalenka’s victory in the US Open final against Pegula showcased her ability to maintain her focus and composure under pressure, ultimately securing the win in a tense final set. The Belarusian’s success in capturing both hardcourt majors in a single season is a testament to her skill and determination on the court.

As Sabalenka moves forward in her career, this victory at the US Open will serve as a significant milestone and boost to her confidence. Her performance in the final against Pegula demonstrated her ability to overcome challenges and emerge victorious in high-pressure situations. With her sights set on further success in the Grand Slam events, Sabalenka’s win at the US Open cements her status as a formidable force on the women’s tennis circuit. As she continues to refine her game and improve her skills, Sabalenka is poised to make a lasting impact on the sport and compete for more Grand Slam titles in the future.
