The Second International Conference on Kidney Diseases and Transplantation in Salalah, organized by the Directorate General of Health Services in Dhofar Governorate and the Omani Society for Kidney Diseases and Transplantation, focused on enhancing healthcare for kidney patients and increasing community awareness about prevention and treatment. The conference recommended the establishment of an international and regional cooperation network to exchange expertise and knowledge, improve therapeutic innovations, develop health policies related to early detection of kidney diseases, support government efforts, and expand kidney transplant programmes in Oman.

The conference called for launching awareness campaigns targeting the community to increase knowledge about preventing kidney diseases through television programmes, social media, and community workshops. Additionally, it emphasized the importance of enhancing the training and continuous development of medical personnel in the field of kidney diseases and transplantation in Oman. The use of modern technologies, such as artificial intelligence and advanced medical technology, to improve diagnosis and treatment methods for kidney failure patients was also encouraged.

Throughout the three-day conference, various working papers and scientific lectures were presented on topics such as pediatric nephrology, congenital solitary kidneys, dominant tubulointerstitial kidney disease, developments in glomerulonephritis diseases, and the role of biomarkers in their management. Research on atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome was also reviewed, providing attendees with valuable insights and updates in the field of kidney diseases and transplantation.

The recommendations from the conference aim to drive advancements in healthcare for kidney patients in Oman, aligning with the country’s long-term vision for healthcare outlined in Oman Vision 2040. By supporting national programmes to combat kidney failure and facilitating cooperation with global transplant centres, the Sultanate of Oman can expand its kidney transplant programmes and improve outcomes for patients with kidney diseases.

Overall, the Second International Conference on Kidney Diseases and Transplantation in Salalah was a platform for experts and practitioners in the field to come together, exchange knowledge, and work towards enhancing healthcare for kidney patients. The emphasis on community awareness, training of medical personnel, and the use of modern technologies underscores the importance of a comprehensive approach to tackling kidney diseases and improving treatment outcomes for patients in Oman.

Moving forward, the recommendations from the conference will serve as a roadmap for enhancing healthcare services for kidney patients and increasing awareness about prevention and treatment in the Sultanate of Oman. By implementing these recommendations and fostering collaboration with international partners, Oman can continue to make strides in the field of kidney diseases and transplantation, ultimately improving the quality of life for patients in need of these vital healthcare services.
