The UAE has once again urged for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan, following the ongoing conflict in the North African country. Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, emphasized the need for a ceasefire in a letter published in The Economist. She praised the publication for shedding light on the tragic events unfolding in Sudan and described it as a sign of growing global disorder. Nusseibeh highlighted the role played by the UAE in recent talks in Switzerland, where they helped establish critical routes for aid deliveries and developed a compliance mechanism to ensure implementation of the ceasefire.

The Minister reiterated the UAE’s commitment to intensifying diplomatic efforts to protect all civilians in Sudan, particularly women and children, from violence, including sexual violence. She emphasized the importance of elevating and integrating the perspectives of Sudanese women into ongoing efforts and talks. Responding to allegations, Nusseibeh clarified that the UAE is not providing weapons or support to any warring parties in Sudan. She emphasized the importance of effective diplomacy and a negotiated settlement to achieve peace in the region.

Nusseibeh stressed that a full nationwide ceasefire is essential to ending the conflict in Sudan and achieving a return to a civilian-led government. She underscored the urgency of the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and called for both parties to come to the table for further talks. The Minister emphasized the need for collective efforts and investment of time, expertise, leverage, and humanitarian resources to bring about a resolution to the conflict. She reiterated the UAE’s focus on securing an immediate and urgent ceasefire to alleviate the suffering of the people of Sudan.

In conclusion, Nusseibeh emphasized that the people of Sudan deserve the full attention and collective efforts of the international community to end the war and humanitarian crisis in the country. She called for both parties to engage in meaningful dialogue and work towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The UAE remains committed to supporting diplomatic efforts and working towards a ceasefire in order to bring stability and peace to Sudan. The Minister emphasized the importance of international cooperation and collaboration to address the ongoing crisis in Sudan and provide much-needed relief to the affected population.
