The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) recently launched its 2024-2030 strategy under the slogan ‘Igniting the Spark of Learning’ in Qatar. The strategy sets 14 goals to be achieved through 24 programmes, focusing on pre-primary education, education from grade 1-12, post-secondary education, continuous learning, and enhancing the education system’s capabilities. The event was attended by key figures including the Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Education and Higher Education, and other officials from both the public and private sectors.

The strategy aims to align with the objectives of the Human Development pillar outlined in the Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030. It emphasizes improving the quality of higher education for Qataris, building a better-educated talent pool, enhancing the role of teachers, developing teaching profession, and updating curricula. The Minister of Education highlighted the importance of empowering learners for a sustainable future and the role of teachers as the foundation for sustainable development.

The strategy encompasses all stages of learning, from pre-primary to post-secondary education and continuous learning. In the early childhood education sector, efforts will be made to increase enrollment rates in pre-primary education and double the percentage of enrollment by 2030. Initiatives to improve the quality of education in government schools, enhance students’ positive attitudes towards learning, and build character will be implemented. The ‘My School, My Community’ program aims to enhance students’ quality of life and provide a stimulating learning environment.

The strategy also includes plans to improve learning outcomes through curriculum development, digital learning resources, and modern learning methods. Efforts to enhance academic guidance, increase enrollment in scientific specializations, and redesign educational tracks will be made. Additionally, new schools specializing in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics will be opened to enhance the quality of education in these fields.

In the post-secondary education sector, the ministry aims to expand options for vocational, technical, and higher education, aligning programs with the labor market’s needs. Efforts will be made to develop the research, innovation, and entrepreneurship system, prepare competencies, attract talent, enhance research funding programs, and increase private sector participation. Initiatives such as the National School Accreditation Program and the Student Support Services Center aim to provide high-quality education for children with disabilities and support their individual educational plans.

In conclusion, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education’s 2024-2030 strategy aims to revolutionize and enhance the education system in Qatar, focusing on key areas such as early childhood education, primary to secondary education, and post-secondary education. By empowering learners and focusing on the development of teachers, the strategy seeks to create a sustainable and resilient generation capable of facing future challenges. Through collaborative efforts with various sectors, the strategy aims to achieve the goals outlined in the Qatar National Vision 2030 and drive innovation and excellence in education.
