Residents in the UAE can expect relief from the scorching summer temperatures as September approaches, marking the end of the summer season. The gradual decrease in temperatures during the night is expected to continue into the second half of the month. September 23 will bring the autumn equinox, signaling that the Sun will be directly proportional to the equator, resulting in equal rays in both hemispheres. In the UAE, several days after the equinox, night and day become equal.

The National Centre of Meteorology has forecasted rain and thunderstorms in certain parts of the country during September. This is due to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds in the eastern areas, which may extend to internal regions, bringing rain at varying intensities. Additionally, fresh winds, occasionally carrying dust and leading to poor visibility, are expected. These winds are a result of the Indian monsoon depression weakening and desert thermal lows over the Arabian Peninsula.

Humidity levels are anticipated to rise during September, especially in the latter half of the month. There is a possibility of fog and mist formation in some parts of the country, with relative humidity at around 49 percent. The Suhail star, also known as the ‘Star of Yemen’, was spotted on August 24, marking the end of the peak summer season. Following the sighting of the star, a 40-day transition period known as ‘Sufriya’ occurs, between peak heat and cooler temperatures.

As mid-October approaches, the weather is expected to gradually stabilize during the ‘Wasm’ period. The cool winter season is anticipated to begin 100 days after the rise of the Suhail star.
