Abu Dhabi Crown Prince visits IIT-Delhi for inauguration and campus tour

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi recently attended the grand inauguration of IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi, marking the establishment of the first international campus of the renowned Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Delhi). This move is significant as it signifies a strong partnership between India and the UAE in the field of STEM education and research. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, was present at the event and witnessed the launch of strategic partnerships between IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi, its parent campus IIT-Delhi, and other prestigious higher education institutions in the emirate.

During the visit, Sheikh Khaled toured the new campus and explored the various academic programs and facilities offered by the institute. This collaboration between IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi and institutions like Khalifa University, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, and Zayed University will pave the way for joint research projects, student exchanges, and academic seminars. The partnership aims to enhance educational opportunities and foster a culture of research and innovation in the region.

The India-based institute will collaborate with Khalifa University on research and academic programs, sharing research facilities, lab spaces, and facilitating student and faculty exchanges. Additionally, partnerships with Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, and Zayed University will open doors for joint research projects, student exchanges, internship programs, and hosting academic events. The agreements aim to create a conducive environment for knowledge exchange and research collaboration among leading educational institutions in the UAE.

Sheikh Khaled emphasized the role of this institution in realizing the leadership’s vision of creating a diverse and inclusive hub for education and knowledge development. The focus on climate change and sustainability leadership highlights Abu Dhabi’s commitment to addressing global challenges and nurturing future leaders in these critical areas. The establishment of IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi underscores the UAE’s dedication to providing world-class education and fostering innovation in the region.

The establishment of IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi was sanctioned by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2023. The presence of distinguished leaders and officials at the inauguration reflects the strong bilateral ties between the two nations and the shared commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and research collaboration. The event symbolizes a new chapter in the partnership between India and the UAE in the field of STEM education and research.

The Crown Prince was accompanied by a delegation of key officials, including Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technologies; Shamma Al Mazrui, Minister of Community Development; Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Sara Musallam, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge; and other prominent figures. The presence of these officials underscores the strategic importance of this partnership and the commitment to driving innovation and academic excellence in the region. Overall, the inauguration of IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between India and the UAE in the field of STEM education and research.
