The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) in Bahrain has been actively cracking down on illegal labor practices in the country. Between August 25 to 31, 2024, the LMRA conducted 1,820 inspection campaigns and visits, resulting in the detention of 48 irregular workers and the deportation of 150 violators. These efforts were aimed at enforcing the regulations set forth in the Labour Market Regulatory Authority and Residency Laws in Bahrain, with legal measures being taken against those found in violation.

A total of 1,808 inspection visits were carried out on various shops across all governorates, along with 12 joint inspection campaigns involving multiple government entities. These campaigns included collaborations with the Ministry of Interior, Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA), Police Directorates, General Directorates of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Civil Defence, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Ministry of Health, Bahrain Tourism and Exhibition Authority, Electricity and Water Authority, and various municipal councils.

The LMRA emphasized the importance of joint coordination with government agencies to intensify inspection campaigns in all governorates of Bahrain. These efforts are crucial in addressing any violations or practices that could negatively impact the stability and competitiveness of the labor market, as well as harm the economic and social security of the Kingdom. The authority urged all members of society to support these efforts by reporting any illegal labor practices through their website, call center, or the government’s Suggestions and Complaints System (Tawasul).

The enforcement of labor regulations and residency laws is vital to maintaining a fair and competitive labor market in Bahrain. By detaining violating workers and deporting violators, the LMRA is sending a strong message that illegal labor practices will not be tolerated in the country. These crackdowns also serve as a deterrent to others who may be engaging in similar activities, ultimately working towards a more compliant and law-abiding workforce in Bahrain.

The collaboration between the LMRA and various government entities demonstrates a coordinated effort to address illegal labor practices effectively. By conducting joint inspection campaigns and visits, these agencies are able to cover a wider range of establishments and ensure that regulations are being enforced consistently across all governorates. This multi-agency approach is crucial in deterring violations and maintaining a level playing field in the labor market.

Overall, the LMRA’s ongoing efforts to crack down on illegal labor practices are essential for upholding the integrity of Bahrain’s labor market and protecting the rights of both workers and employers. By encouraging members of society to report violations and working closely with other government agencies, the LMRA is taking proactive steps to ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations. Through continued vigilance and enforcement, Bahrain can maintain a stable and competitive labor market that benefits all stakeholders.
