Dubai Municipality recently completed a Dh26-million project at the intersection of Airport Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, featuring a massive landscaping project with a ‘Welcome to Dubai’ message in Arabic and English. The project covers 360,000 square meters of manicured lawns and is one of the largest beautification projects in the emirate. The green space includes decorative elements like coloured gravel visible during the day and innovative lighting that makes the welcome message glow at night.

The project boasts a modern and sustainable design with 50,000 plants and shrubs carefully selected to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the landscape. Innovative plant fences and a modern irrigation system were developed to maintain the greenery and optimize water efficiency to balance urban development and sustainability. The project aligns with the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to establish Dubai as the world’s best city to live in, enhancing the city’s attractiveness through landscaping that balances urban development and environmental sustainability.

Dubai Municipality plans to increase the city’s green spaces by 105% as part of the 2040 Urban Master Plan, with more greening projects in the pipeline. Several green corridors will be established to link service areas, residential areas, and workplaces, contributing to Dubai’s unique appeal as a global tourist destination. In addition to the Airport Road project, the municipality beautified the intersection at Al Meydan and Al Khail Street earlier this year, with an artwork inspired by hoof prints and featuring grass, flowers, and Chorisia trees.

Last year, Dubai Municipality completed unique green artworks on four roundabouts in the Al Raqa, Nad Al Sheba, Nad Al Hamar, and Al Khawaneej areas, inspired by local heritage and landmarks. The iconic Clock Tower roundabout was also upgraded with new floors and a state-of-the-art water fountain combined with 3D lighting systems. These projects aim to increase vegetation cover in Dubai and create aesthetic features that enhance the city’s appeal as a global tourist destination.

In conclusion, Dubai Municipality’s recent landscaping projects at the intersection of Airport Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road showcase the city’s commitment to creating sustainable and aesthetically pleasing green spaces. These projects not only enhance the city’s attractiveness but also contribute to a balanced urban development that prioritizes environmental sustainability. With more greening projects in the pipeline, Dubai continues to solidify its position as a world-class city with unique green spaces that appeal to residents and tourists alike.
