The University of Doha for Science and Technology recently collaborated with PetroSkills to host a conference in Doha, Qatar, focusing on managing the transition in competency-based learning and development within the energy industry. The conference brought together industry leaders from the oil, gas, and petrochemical sectors, as well as government officials, to address key trends and challenges in competency-based learning. The event emphasized the importance of adapting to rapid transformations in the energy sector by building a skilled and specialized workforce and promoting competency-based continuous learning through the integration of advanced digital technologies, promoting a safety culture, and developing risk management skills related to renewable energy and the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Dr. Salem Al Naemi, President of UDST, expressed his delight in hosting the conference in partnership with PetroSkills, highlighting the importance of enhancing competency-based learning to address the challenges of the energy transition. The university is committed to equipping the workforce with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the energy industry. Hamad Al Kuwari, Director of Continuing and Professional Education at UDST, noted that the conference provided valuable insights into the latest trends in competency-based learning and development, offering professionals the opportunity to engage in discussions that will shape the future of workforce development in the energy sector.

Ford Brett, CEO of PetroSkills, expressed satisfaction with the success of the partnership with UDST and their participation in the conference. He highlighted the major challenges facing the energy industry, such as the need for clean energy, emerging technologies, and the reallocation of professionals to low-carbon or renewable energy. The conference served as a platform for sharing new ideas to address these challenges and deliver solutions that work in the region and beyond. The event underscored UDST’s commitment to supporting QNV 2030 by promoting innovation, advancing education, and contributing to the sustainable development of the energy sector.

Overall, the conference highlighted the importance of competency-based learning in preparing professionals to navigate the rapidly evolving energy industry. By integrating advanced technologies, promoting a safety culture, and developing risk management skills, professionals can better adapt to the challenges of the energy transition. UDST’s partnership with PetroSkills and their dedication to developing highly qualified professionals demonstrate their commitment to driving transformation within the energy industry and supporting Qatar’s vision for sustainable development.
