A red alert was issued for fog and a drop in horizontal visibility by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) on September 11 from 4am to 9am. Earlier, at 2 am, a yellow alert was also issued for foggy conditions. A red alert indicates weather events of exceptional severity, while a yellow alert advises residents to be aware if going outdoors. Locations affected by fog include several roads in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, with speed reduction systems activated and motorists urged to adhere to speed limits.

This is the second day in a row that a red alert has been issued, with dense fog seen in various parts of the country on September 10. The foggy conditions signal a transition in the weather as UAE residents enter the ‘Sufriya’ period, marked by a gradual shift to lower temperatures after the sighting of the Suhail star on August 24. September 23 will mark the beginning of the autumn equinox, with temperatures set to drop further into the second half of the month.

On the current weather forecast, the NCM expects fair to partly cloudy conditions with humidity increasing at night and the possibility of fog or mist on Thursday morning in certain coastal and internal areas, especially towards the west. Light to moderate winds will blow with occasional dust blowing towards the east, and the sea is expected to be slight in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea. Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest news.

In light of the ongoing foggy conditions and reduced visibility, residents are urged to take necessary precautions and be vigilant while driving. With the activation of speed reduction systems and the issuance of red and yellow alerts, it is crucial for motorists to exercise caution and adhere to the speed limits to ensure their safety and the safety of others on the road. The NCM continues to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.

As the UAE transitions into the autumn season, residents can expect cooler temperatures and more comfortable weather conditions in the coming days. The gradual shift from peak summer to the ‘Sufriya’ period signifies a relief from the extreme heat and signals the onset of more moderate temperatures. With the autumn equinox approaching on September 23, followed by equal day and night lengths, the weather is expected to become more pleasant and conducive to outdoor activities. Stay informed and prepared for any weather changes with updates from NCM and other reliable sources.

In conclusion, residents in the UAE are advised to stay cautious and aware of the foggy conditions affecting various parts of the country. With red and yellow alerts in place, it is essential to take necessary precautions and follow safety guidelines while driving. As the transition to cooler temperatures continues, take advantage of the more pleasant weather conditions and enjoy outdoor activities safely. Stay updated on the latest weather forecasts and advisories to ensure a smooth and safe experience during this transition period.
