President Sheikh Mohamed has allocated $5 million to support the emergency vaccination campaign against polio in Gaza after the re-emergence of the virus in the territory. This funding is part of the UAE’s continuous efforts to provide relief to the Palestinians, especially children, in response to the grave humanitarian crisis they are facing. The World Health Organisation confirmed that at least one child in Gaza has been paralyzed by the variant type 2 poliovirus, marking the first such case in the territory in 25 years. To combat this, a campaign will be carried out in collaboration with WHO, UNICEF, and ANROA to provide two doses of the polio vaccine to over 640,000 children under the age of 10 in Gaza to prevent the disease outbreak.

The vaccination campaign is set to begin on September 1 in a staggered schedule, starting in Central Gaza and then moving to South and North Gaza. Each phase will last for three days, coinciding with area-specific humanitarian pauses to enable children and families to access health facilities and community workers to reach children. With 1.26 million doses of the polio vaccine already in Gaza, and 400,000 more expected to arrive soon, the campaign aims to stop the spread of the virus and prevent a potential outbreak in the region. Over 2,100 health workers, including mobile teams, will support the delivery of both rounds of the vaccination campaign.

It is essential for the international community to support efforts to combat the re-emergence of polio in Gaza and prevent its further spread. The allocation of $5 million by President Sheikh Mohamed is a significant step in providing necessary resources to conduct the emergency vaccination campaign. The collaboration between various organizations such as WHO, UNICEF, and ANROA highlights the importance of united efforts in addressing public health emergencies. The vaccination campaign, targeting over 640,000 children in Gaza, aims to protect the vulnerable population from the potentially devastating effects of poliovirus infection.

The confirmation of a polio case in Gaza after 25 years underscores the importance of continuous vaccination efforts to maintain immunity against preventable diseases. The campaign’s phased approach, starting in different regions of Gaza and lasting for three days in each area, ensures maximum coverage and accessibility for children under 10 years old. By providing two doses of the polio vaccine, the campaign seeks to create a protective barrier against the spread of the virus and mitigate the risk of a larger outbreak. The support of over 2,100 health workers in delivering the vaccinations showcases the dedication and coordination required to implement such a large-scale public health initiative.

As the campaign is set to kick off on September 1, it is crucial to raise awareness about the importance of vaccination and encourage families to participate in the program. Ensuring that children receive both doses of the polio vaccine is essential to achieve herd immunity and protect the entire community from the disease. The cooperation between health authorities, community workers, and families in Gaza is vital in ensuring the success of the vaccination campaign and preventing the further spread of the poliovirus. By staying up to date with the latest news and developments, individuals can actively contribute to supporting the ongoing efforts to combat polio in Gaza and safeguard the health of the population.

With the delivery of over 1.26 million doses of the polio vaccine and additional doses on the way, the campaign is well-equipped to reach a significant number of children in Gaza and administer the necessary vaccinations. The collaboration between different organizations and the dedication of health workers highlights the collective commitment to addressing public health emergencies and protecting vulnerable populations. By following the phased approach and providing vaccinations during area-specific humanitarian pauses, the campaign ensures that children and families have access to essential healthcare services and support, ultimately contributing to the overall well-being of the community in Gaza. The allocation of funds and resources by President Sheikh Mohamed reflects the UAE’s commitment to providing humanitarian aid to those in need and responding to urgent health crises.
