Vehicle impoundment in the UAE is a serious penalty that is imposed along with a heavy fine and black points for serious violations such as jumping signals or modifying cars. During impoundment, the vehicle is not to be used and can either be impounded at a provided location or at a residential premise. To retrieve the impounded vehicle, the process may vary from city to city. Here is a complete guide on how to get your car back from the impound in different emirates such as Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman.

In Abu Dhabi, if your car is impounded, you can manage the situation conveniently online by registering and signing in to the tamm.abudhabiwebsite. You can submit a request by providing your driving licence or plate number and receive a confirmation through SMS or email once the necessary steps are completed. There is also an option to request your car to be impounded at your home by filling in the required information on the website and having a smart tracking device installed in your car.

In Dubai, if your car is impounded, you can use the Dubai Police website or app to submit a request for release. By entering your plate details and other necessary information, paying the fees, and receiving a transaction number, you can follow up on the status of your request online. Alternatively, you can visit the Dubai Traffic Department in Al Twar 1 to file a request for release of your impounded car if the online process is not suitable for you.

In Sharjah, to retrieve your impounded car, you need to visit Sharjah Municipality or complete an online application form on the municipality’s website. By entering your car details, paying the fines, and printing the application form, you can then visit the Traffic Department of Sharjah to file your request and claim your vehicle release letter with the required documents proving ownership.

In Ajman, if your car is impounded, you can follow the steps on the ajman.ae website to submit a request for release. By filling in necessary information, receiving a confirmation, paying the fees, and collecting your vehicle from the impound service center, you can retrieve your vehicle. UAE citizens, residents, tourists, GCC citizens, government institutions, and private companies are all eligible for this impound release service.

The requirements to retrieve the impounded vehicle vary in each emirate. In Abu Dhabi, you need to present your driving licence, Emirates ID, and vehicle registration. In Dubai, you need your Emirates ID, driver’s licence, and other vehicle details. In Sharjah, you need vehicle ownership documents, Emirates ID, and a copy of a valid trade licence. In Ajman, you need vehicle ownership or data papers, a traffic management letter if the car is without ownership, or a passport or commercial license if you’re a tourist.

The fees for impounded vehicle release vary in each emirate as well. In Abu Dhabi, the cost depends on the violation committed, and a daily fee of Dh15 is applicable for home impoundment. In Dubai, you need to pay service fees and additional fees for extended impoundment duration. In Sharjah, there is a fee for vehicle release certification and storage fees for late retrieval. In Ajman, there are fees for vehicle release, transfer, administration, and other related costs based on the nature of the vehicle and transfer method.
